'American Idol' Season 22 contestants list: From worst to best
Madai Chakell
Madai Chakell had to face an embarrassing moment just before her elimination. She performed Ariana Grande's 'Tattooed Heart' but got shaky. The judges gave a second chance to Madai but she again messed up after she added a southern twang to the word 'heart' which offended Luke Bryan.
Madai delivered a stunning performance during the auditions but her Hollywood Week performance wasn't Idol-worthy. She blamed her pianist for messing up her performance. However, the viewers were not convinced by Madai's 'terrible' vocals and wanted her to go. After her ABC show gig, Madai, who is also a social media influencer, dropped her single, 'Peculiar'.
Lillian Hackett
Lillian Hackett was one of the contestants who failed to impress the audience. The singer-songwriter performed her original song 'Tennessee' and accompanied herself on guitar. Lillian received huge backlash over her 'awful' voice. The viewers also dragged the judges into the backlash for advancing her to Hollywood Week.
17-year-old Lillian wanted to grow as a musician and a storyteller. She still has time to get some more professional training and return to the ABC show after a few years. After the elimination, Lillian has continued to perform her live gigs at multiple locations. She has recently dropped a new original song, 'Time is a Thief,' as a tribute to her grandmother.
Camila Galavis
'The Bachelor' alum Juan Pablo's daughter Camila Galavis was a 'big no' at least according to the 'American Idol' Season 22 viewers. She struggled to perform 'Rabia' by Joaquina during the audition and didn't have the perfect pitch. Lionel instantly gave a no to Camila and Katy acknowledged the contestant's personality. Katy also had a flirty moment with Juan.
Despite Luke complimenting Camila's confidence and personality, he wasn't satisfied with her high notes. However, the viewers claimed that the judges advanced Camila only because she was the daughter of an ABC show star which seemed to be quite true as she actually lacked singing skills.
CJ Rislove
CJ Rislove had a charismatic personality and entertained the 'American Idol' judges during the auditions. He also gave a tour of his school bus where he lived. Sadly, CJ's charming personality was not enough to survive in the singing competition and he was eliminated during Hollywood's biggest cut.
CJ is a great songwriter and performed his original song, 'The Astronaut and The Rockstar' during the audition. He also claimed that songwriting is the thing that really 'lights a fire in my heart'. However, the aspiring singer lacked charisma in his voice in front of other talented contestants. CJ has started his band, 'Remington Hill' along with some of his friends after the elimination and recently performed their first live concert.
Alto Moon
Alto Moon performed his original song, 'Lemonz' during the auditions. Although he has a great songwriting talent, Alto still needed practice to become the next singing sensation. He has dreamt of becoming 'American Idol' but requires hard work to win the singing competition.
Alto could try next season with more practice and stun the judges. Alto has shared his love for the ABC show in the confessional interview. He said, "I was in kindergarten, first grade when I was first watching. Learning how to use the home phone and I had to vote for Ruben Studdard." He has been creating a fan base by dropping his music videos of the songs that he would have performed during different rounds of the ABC show.
Isaiah Case
'American Idol' alum Isaiah Case has a very raspy-sounding country voice. He performed an original song titled, 'What Could I Do'. The 22-year-old worship leader was eliminated during Hollywood Week and the viewers didn't get to listen to his performances besides his auditions. This was his second failed attempt at Idol.
However, the viewers were not a fan of Isaiah's gravelly voice and wanted him to be eliminated. The aspiring singer and songwriter had dedicated his social media to promoting his ABC show gig and shared a series of behind-the-scenes from his auditions. However, he has also revealed multiple singles and performed live at a few places after his elimination.
Brant McCollough
Brant Mccollough performed 'Fire Away' by Chris Stapleton during the audition and failed to impress Katy Perry as well as the audience. Although Brant was a brilliant guitar player, his raspy voice needed more work. Luke notably compared Brant's look with his son before giving a yes to him. Lionel Richie was not sure and took time to give him a chance to prove his talent.
Unfortunately, the judges realized that the 17-year-old performer was not talented enough to be in the Top 24 and eliminated him during the biggest cut in Idol Arena. Brant has recently performed his original song at the 2024 Geneva Festival on the Rivers.
Garrison Bennett
Garrison Bennett covered Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' and was advanced to the Hollywood Week. However, the viewers claimed that Garrison's voice 'wasn't that good' and called out the judges for advancing him. Garrison worked for a landscaping company but said he has always had a passion for music.
However, Garrison needed more practice to transform his passion into a full-time career. He also drew comparisons to Lionel for his looks. Garrison is a notable guitar player and often shares musical videos on his social media. He has recently posted a video with other 'American Idol' contestants singing. He called the moment his favorite. The 18-year-old 'old soul' performer is yet to release his original song.
Dawson Slade
Dawson Slade had to perform twice to finally grab the Golden Ticket to Hollywood. The aspiring singer had 'good guitar playing' but judges felt icy during his first performance as his voice didn't strike them as star potential. Luke even told Dawson he was hearing 'tons of songwriter vibes right now' and not hearing 'screaming artist vibes yet'.
The judges eventually decided to give him a second chance and advance him to the next round. However, Dawson failed to impress the viewers with his flat country voice. Additionally, the aspiring singer's high pitch and vocal rage were not Idol-worthy. He was eliminated during Idol Arena but continues to drop new songs. Dawson might not have a great voice but he definitely could be an exceptional songwriter.
Liliana Tovar Dalton
Liliana Tovar Dalton performed her original song titled, '5%.' She showed the ABC show judges a wider range and sang 'Someone Like You' by Adele during the auditions. The singer and songwriter impressed the judges and received mixed reactions from the viewers.

She announced her departure and noted, "I am eternally grateful for the experience and the advice given to me by artists I so look up to."

Alyssa Raghu appeared in 'American Idol' for a third time this season after previously making the top 8 in 2019 and top 24 in 2018. She stepped in Season 22 to support her best friend and roommate Julia Davo but hijacked her audition. Alyssa and the judges received huge backlash from the viewers claiming that she sounded 'terrible'.
However, Katy made it clear at the moment that Alyssa could advance to a few rounds but she would not win the competition. Katy's words seemed to be true as Alyssa was eliminated even before she could reach the Top 24. Meanwhile, the viewers suggested that Alyssa should take a hint from her latest failure and not audition again in the singing competition.
Spencer Wells
'American Idol' Season 22 Spencer Wells sang 'Use Somebody' by Kings of Leon for his audition. The 24-year-old medical sales representative instantly impressed the ABC show judges but the viewers found his vocals just 'average'. He is still new in the music industry and needs to work on his pitch. The aspiring singer has a family of 16 members who accompanied him during the audition. Spencer hasn't posted any updates on his life or future music career on his social media after his elimination.
Carmen Olivia

Carmen called the experience 'magical' and acknowledged 'incredible' and 'inspiring' contestants. She also noted, "I left feeling more confident than ever." However, she teased that it was not the end of her journey. She has recently dropped a new single, 'Love as a kid', and starred herself in the music video.
Cate Gartner
Teen mom Cate Gartner performed an original song titled, 'The Place That I Call Home', which she penned for her son. The 18-year-old singer and songwriter was another contestant who had impressive songwriting skills which received a standing ovation from the ABC show judges.
Luke, Katy and Lionel praised Cate's songwriting and storytelling abilities but none of them commented on the aspiring singer's vocals. However, songwriting was not enough to survive in the further rounds of the singing competition and resulted in her elimination after Hollywood Week. Cate has recently shared a stage with 'American Idol' alum Max McNown.
Ty'Esha Lashay
Ty'Esha Lashay has a soulful voice but needs to work on her tone and pitch. She delivered a stunning performance of Allen Stone's song 'Unaware' and easily advanced to the next round. Music has always been a part of Ty'esha's life as she belongs to a singing family.
Ty'Esha's mother, grandmother, and her aunt had a group and performed at church. She has always been comfortable with singing but often struggled with stage presence. She was eliminated in the Showstoppers round but gained the self-confidence to perform on even bigger stages. Besides singing, Ty'esha aspires to be a plus-size model.

Laela Dasher
Laela Dasher performed 'Angel from Montgomery' by John Prine during the auditions accompanied by her brother, Max, on guitar. The 'American Idol' judges were unsure about her 'not a crazy big voice' but later decided to move her ahead to see what the future holds for her.

She recently turned 20 and feels grateful for the opportunities she has received so far. She has also shared her best wishes for her and Max's band, Dasher.

However, the aspiring singer gradually impressed the viewers with his falsetto and vocals along with his emotional performances. Mackenzie performed 'False Alarms' by Lawrence feat Jon Bellion and brought a storm on stage.
Katy complimented the aspiring singer's control of his pitch and tone. She also noted, "That long falsetto note was amazing." His fans also loved Mackenzie's performance but he failed to grab a spot in the Top 12. He has just dropped his latest single, 'Anxiety'. He also shared a new video with her mother Nikki Sol's best friend, 'Dance Moms' alum, Abby Lee Miller.
Odell Bunton Jr
The platinum ticket winner Odell Bunton Jr stunned the judges with his powerful rendition of 'Bring It on Home to Me' by Sam Cooke during the audition. He became one of the fans' favorite singers and continued to impress the viewers until the Top 14.
Odell didn't receive enough votes to advance to the Top 14 and the judges surprisingly didn't save him. America again lost potential and an extraordinary singer to be their next winner. However, the elimination would not stop Odell from becoming a singing sensation as he continued to release new music.
Ajii
'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Ajii instantly impressed the ABC show judges with his outstanding rendition of 'Lose Control' by Teddy Swims during the auditions. Katy even claimed that Ajii could advance to the Top 10. Unfortunately, he was eliminated during the Top 14 reveal after he failed to receive enough votes.
Additionally, the ABC show judges also didn't save Ajii despite being a powerful singer. The judges definitely made a mistake as Ajii was talented, deserving as well as fans' favorite singer.
Hailey Mia
The 16-year-old Hailey Mia surprised the ABC show judges with her extraordinary rendition of Katy's 'Rise' during the audition. Katy was even 'reinspired' because of Hailey's version of her song. She competed through the Hollywood Week and Showstopper rounds with a series of stunning performances.
Hailey sadly failed to earn a spot in the Top 20 which was unfortunate for the competition. She is an aspiring singer with multiple qualities that could have helped her to at least advance to the Top 14.
Julia Gagnon
'American Idol' Season 22 alum Julia Gagnon's vocals not only impressed the viewers but also made her judges' favorite contestant. She delivered an exceptional performance of Whitney Houston's song 'Run To You', which received a standing ovation from the judges.
Lionel called Julia a 'superstar' and told her to 'drop the mic'. Katy raved about her 'strategy choices' and gave her an 'A+'. Meanwhile, Luke noted how she looked 'free' and 'didn't even worry one second.' If Julia earned more support from the viewers, she could have reached the finale.
Despite the elimination, Julia continues to thrive in her singing career and recently announced a new song with her fiance, Nate. The ABC show alum also revealed that she would perform live at different locations.
Jack Blocker
During the audition, 'American Idol' finalist Jack Blocker was initially rejected by Katy and Luke but Lionel Richie believed in him. However, the production team chimed in and asked the judges to re-vote. Jack fortunately received a second chance to prove his talent and surprisingly got the golden ticket.
Jack has relocated from Dallas to Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife in 2022 to pursue music full-time and he is a step closer to living his dream. Jack has an amazing vocal but his facial expression always received backlash. Despite the criticism, Jack has recently bagged a golden opportunity as he performed at halftime during the Dallas Mavericks' playoff game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He has also announced dropped his new single, 'All Of Yours (To Give All Of Mine)' before the finale.
Triston Harper
Tristan Harper was the youngest contestant in the singing competition and had the potential to create history by becoming the first 15-year-old 'American Idol' winner. Unfortunately, he failed to earn enough votes to advance to the finals. Tristan had a chance to meet his role model Jelly Roll and the award-winning singer also recognized the aspiring performer's talent.
Jelly noted that Tristan has the voice of a man who has been through a 'lifetime of pain'. However, elimination couldn't hold Tristan from becoming a beloved singer and returning to the ABC show to give another shot to the singing competition. The country singer has recently announced his new single, 'H.O.P.E', and shared a series of behind-the-scenes of the making of his new song.
Will Moseley
Former football player Will Moseley recently completed his graduation from Georgia Southern University in 2023. He decided to ditch football to learn guitar and started performing. Although he is new to singing, he has amazing vocals which helped him to advance to the finals.
After being in the Top 3 finalists, Will announced his new song, 'Good Book Bad'. The country singer took to Instagram and announced, "So, through this whole journey, I came across a once-in-a-lifetime song and was lucky enough to get to have a hand in sharing it with the world." He added, "'Good Book Bad' is released on Friday 5/17."
Abi Carter
Abi Carter is the fans' favorite and reached the finals with the viewers' and judges' support throughout the multiple rounds. The ABC viewers also expect Abi to win the singing competition and take home the whopping prize. Abi's stunning rendition of Adele's song, 'Hello', has notably escalated her chances of winning the competition.
Abi performed Billie Eilish's song 'What Was I Made For?' during the auditions and earned a Platinum Ticket, securing her a place in the competition. She is also the only one of the Platinum ticket winners to compete in the finale. Abi has also recently released her debut singles, 'It's All Love' and 'This Isn't Over' ahead of the finale.
