'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Ricky Moyer has been part of musical theaters

Moyer's engagement in musical theater has been extensive, highlighted by standout roles including one of the leads in a university production of “The Wild Party” and his portrayal of Johnny in Weathervane Theatre’s rendition of “American Idiot” in 2021. His talents extend beyond acting, as evidenced by his impressive skills as a puppeteer, showcased in various productions. Last year, he was gearing up for Baldwin University's Senior Showcase in New York City, where his performances of “Let Me Drown” from The Wild Party and “If I Can’t Love Her” from Beauty and the Beast were eagerly anticipated.

"I was coming home from a theater audition in New York in May, and I was feeling a little deflated and a little bit lost, and an ad came on for Idol and I just sent in a video I had from my sophomore year of college," recalled Moyer. A few weeks later, he received a callback email, leading to a Zoom interview with the show’s producers and ultimately an invitation to audition in Los Angeles in October.

During the trip, Moyer endured three grueling 12-hour days of filming, which encompassed interviews, confessionals, b-roll footage, and the audition itself, as he explained. Despite the potential for nerves, he found solace in the camaraderie and support among fellow contestants, which energized him throughout the process.
