'American Idol' 2024 judge Katy Perry feels 'baptized' after 'worship singer' Quintavious' performance
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Quintavious takes the 'American Idol' Season 22 judges to church with his soul singing. The singer sang 'Alabaster Box' by CeCe Winans. When Quintavious walked onto the stage and mentioned he was a "worship singer," Katy Perry believed he would fulfill the expected criteria of a church singer. However, he stunned the judges by exploring a variety of tones. Katy said, "When someone comes in and says I'm a worship singer and that's my job, we get nervous because they usually check an obvious box but you gave us everything in that one song."
She believed Quintavious Quintavious's singing had some kind of healing in it. She said, "It was a whole healing. It was a whole kind of baptism for everyone." Luke Bryan said after Quintavious's performance, "A second baptism for me."
Seeing Quintavious sing, a fan claimed, "I'm not Christian, but Alabaster Box is one of my favorite songs. Man did it justice! I'm getting excited about this year." Another praised the singer, "We found the next American Idol! Damn, he can SANG!! He took us all to CHURCH!"
One wrote, "Took me to church love. You did that!!" "He’s Amazing! He could definitely win this year!" wrote a fan. Another fan claimed, "His voice, his tone, his range is the whole total package."
Luke Bryan 'inspired' by 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Quintavious' performance
After the judges gave a standing ovation to Quintavious, Lionel Richie said, "What you gave us today was just inspiring but most importantly you feel every note." He then dubbed his singing to be a "great performance."
Luke believes Quintavious's voice had some kind of story in it that made the judges delve into it. Katy Perry then commented on the singer's performance, saying, "You're good at this."
'American Idol' Season 22: Did Quintavious get a golden ticket?
Yes, Quintavious did get a golden ticket in the end. But Katy warned the singer to explore other songs other than just worship ones. Pointing towards his singing preferences, Katy said, "It's not always the card you can play. You gotta be a jack of all traits in this competition, find more aces up your sleeves which I'm sure you can with that voice." She gave a sigh of relief to the singer by saying yes to him.
