'American Idol' Season 22 judge Katy Perry eliminates Kaibrienne despite awarding her standing ovation

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: Katy Perry won 'American Idol' Season 22 judge's song contestant and chose McKenna Faith Breinholt to save from elimination. McKenna and Kaibrienne were in the bottom two during the final moments of the ABC show as they received the least votes.

Kaibrienne was eliminated from the singing competition after Katy saved McKenna and the viewers were disappointed with the decision. During the episode, Kaibrienne brought the judges and the audience to their feet with her stirring performance on Olivio Rodrigo's song, 'Traitor'.

Meanwhile, McKenna chose to perform 'Everywhere I Go' by Lissie and the viewers fumed over her vocals. However, Katy received backlash for saving McKenna. A social media user tweeted, "I like KB much better than McKenna. I’m so disappointed. The cry and emotion in KB’s voice is just sooo good."

Another person added, "I will never forgive @katyperry for not saving KB." Another critic noted, "Picking McKenna over KB is literally madness." Another internet user penned, "Mckenna out of american idol it sucks! typical idol bs should not be surprised."

Another X user tweeted, 'That's so messed up, @katyperry saving McKenna over Kaibrienne. Same for the voters who put Kaibrienne in the bottom 2, to begin with." Another viewer wrote, "WHY KATY. MCKENNA IS THE WORST IN THE WHOLE TOP 50."

Kaibrienne receives standing ovation from 'American Idol' judges

'American Idol' judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, were highly impressed with Kaibrienne's emotional performance and awarded her with a standing ovation. She also received compliments from the ABC show judges.

Katy said, "That was amazing." She added, "You look like such a superstar." Luke noted, "It was like a real moment." However, Lionel picked Kaibrienne's song but she failed to guess. She thought Katy had chosen the song. Lionel was not upset with Kaibrienne's response and noted, "You were speaking from the heart, you killed it."

Who are in 'American Idol' Season 22 Top 7?

'American Idol' Season 22 viewers advanced Will Moseley, Emmy Russell, McKenna Faith Breinholt, Jack Blocker, Abi Carter, Julia Gagnon and Triston Harper to the Top 7. The aspiring singers will perform Adele's iconic hit songs in the upcoming episode.

The Top 7 contestants will also receive guidance from the guest mentor, Ciara. The tension in the ABC show will be all-time high as the contestants will sing from their hearts to grab a coveted spot in the Top 5 finalists.

'American Idol' Season 22 airs on Sundays and Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
