Who are 'American Idol' Season 22 Top 24 contestants? ABC show judges advance aspiring singers to Disney Night
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 wrapped up the Showstopper round and eliminated around 32 contestants. Alyssa Raghu, Michael Rice, and Ziggy Krassenberg were among some of the aspiring talented singers who were eliminated during the latest episode.
The latest round was filled with emotional, and jazz performances that mesmerized the viewers and the ABC show judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. The latest round was concluded with the elimination of Alyssa Raghu, Justice Murphy, Micaela McCall, Scarlett Lee, Michael Rice, Ziggy and more aspiring singers.
The episode featured solo performances as well as sign-offs. However, the ABC show has changed its regular format and skipped the duet round. The latest episode was also filled with Katy's fake-outs which left the contestants into tears.
'American Idol' Season 22 Top 24 contestants:
Abi Carter
The Platinum ticket winner Abi Carter had bronchitis just ahead of her Showstopper performance. She also shared during the episode that she had to drop out of school and work while her mother went back to work after her dad left. Katy Perry faked out and said, "I think the dream ends now." She added, "The dream becomes a reality. You are in our Top 24."
Ajii
Ajii received some criticism but the ABC show judges expected that he would work on his performance in the next round. Luke Bryan called his vocals 'a little screamy.' Meanwhile, Lionel Richie believed he needed to bring more vocals when he would perform for the Top 24.
Blake Proehl
The aspiring singer and former football player, Blake Proehl, delivered a soulful rendition of Shawn Mendes' song 'In My Blood'. The judges claimed that they didn't want to fight with his grandmother who encouraged him to give a shot to singing and advanced him to the next round.
Elleigh Marie
Elleigh Marie also made it to the Top 24. The aspiring singer would perform next week in Disney Week.
Emmy Russell
'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Emmy Russell broke down in tears just before her performance. However, Luke Bryan wanted her to be more confident and claimed, "You are worthy... it's probably a pretty good confidence boost to let you... into the Top 24."
Hailey Mia
'American Idol' Season 22 aspiring singer Hailey Mia managed to impress the ABC show judges, Katy, Lionel and Luke to reach the Disney round.
Jack Blocker
Jack Blocker made the judges contradict their judgement again. Katy said after he performed on 'You Should’ve Seen the Other Guy' by Nathaniel Ratcliffe, "We didn’t know Jack." Lionel added, "We are not going to pass judgment on this says Lionel." However, the ABC show judges later agreed and let him stay in the Top 24.
Jayna Elise
'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Jayna Elise finally made it to the Top 24 after she was eliminated during the Hollywood Week in the last season.
Jennifer Jeffries
Jennifer Jeffries impressed the ABC show judges especially, Luke Bryan, as he compared the aspiring singer's voice to Alejandro Aranda.
Jordan Anthony
Jordon Anthony graced the 'American Idol' Season 22 showstopper round with his father, who was also his vocal coach. Jordan performed 'Love in the Dark' by Adele. The ABC show judges were highly impressed with his tone and ultimately advanced him to the next round.
Julia Gagnon
The third Platinum ticket winner Julia Gagnon brought the ABC show judges to their feet with her stirring performance on 'And I Am Telling You' by Jennifer Hudson.
Kayko
After his best friend Abby Blake was eliminated in Hollywood Week, the accidental 'American Idol' contestant Kayko managed to impress the judges in the showstopper round and advanced to Disney Week.
KB Richins
KB Richins had a sign-off with Alyssa Raghu and she nailed her performance on 'Shallow'. Although she was quite nervous because the judges didn't appear to be impressed by her solo performance, she made it through the next round.
KBlocks
The R&B singer KB-locks decided to ditch her comfort zone and tried a different genre. Lionel praised her and dubbed her fierce adding, "You made us pay attention to you."
Kennedy Reid
Kennedy Reid's showstopper performance was not aired but the judges announced that she has advanced to the next round.
Mackenzie Sol
Mackenzie Sol competed against Ziggy during the Signoff round and defeated him to earn a place in the Top 24. Both Ziggy and Mackenzie delivered perfect performances but the judges had to choose just one of them and they chose the latter.
McKenna Breinholt
McKenna Faith Breinholt decided to perform 'Anyone' by Demi Lovato during the Showstopper Round. Despite the judges criticising her, she advanced to the next round.
Mia Matthews
Mia Matthews is also in the Top 24! The contestant performed Loretta Lynn's song, 'You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)' just before the famous singer's granddaughter, Emmy Russell's performance.
Nyachomba 'Nya' Muchai-Kinya
Nya performed 'Get Ready' by The Temptations and received compliments from the ABC show judges. Katy called her performance 'fierce.' However, Nya left in tears after Katy joked, "We really want to tell you no as a fake out." She later revealed that Nya was also advanced to the Disney round.
Odell Bunton Jr
Odell Bunton Jr had a dramatic Showstopper episode and all thanks to Katy. The Platinum ticket winner performed Nina Simone's song 'Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood. He dedicated his emotional performance to his sister who suddenly died at 24 of Cardiomyopathy. The singer also shared his struggles and claimed that his family was still homeless and lived in a hotel room.
However, after his emotional performance, Katy dramatically said that the judges had taken him as far as they could and now it was up to America. Katy's comment left Odell in tears before the judges announced that he had advanced to the Top 24.
Quintavious Johnson
The viewers got a quick glance at Quintavious Johnson's performance in the montage video but that was enough to convince them that it was Top 24 worthy.
Roman Collins
Roman Collins delivered a soulful performance on 'Come Together' by The Beatles and advanced to the next round. Luke complimented his Gospel influence and Katy called his performance the 'best' of the night.
Triston Harper
'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Triston Harper performed 'By Your Grace' by Cody Johnson and instantly impressed the judges. He is in the Top 24.
Will Moseley
Fans' favourite Will Moseley grabbed a spot in the Top 24 list after his performance on 'Ain’t No Sunshine' by Bill Withers. Luke complimented the aspiring singer, "You sing like you look.' The ABC show judge also praised his natural relaxed voice and authenticity.
When will 'American Idol' Season 22 Disney Night premiere?
'American Idol' Season 22 Disney Night is set to premiere on Sunday, April 7 and Monday, April 8. The top 24 contestants would perform at Disney's Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii in the upcoming rounds to grab a spot in the Top 20. The aspiring singers would be mentored by Tori Kelly during part 1 of the Disney night and by Jelly Roll during part 2.
