'Just lost my hearing': 'American Idol' contestant Jack Blocker's loud performance leaves fans disappointed
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Jack Blocker has reached the Top 7 despite Lionel Richie and Katy Perry rejecting him during the auditions. Since then, he has consistently proven the judges wrong with stellar performances. However, his latest gig left viewers disappointed.
During the Top 5 reveal, Jack performed 'Long Tall Sally' by Little Richard. He chose this energetic song because it showcases his true self. Jack revealed that during high school, he was in a band and often performed electrifying songs. He also accommodated himself with a guitar on the stage.
After the performance, Luke Bryan complimented him, "This is not the kid we knew a couple of weeks ago," noting that the aspiring singer used his voice in a different way. He added, "10 out of 10." Lionel noted, "I don't know what the heck I just saw. I agree with Luke. Give me more of that." Meanwhile, Katy said, "That was authentically you."
However, Jack failed to impress most of the ABC show viewers. A social media user commented, "Was not a fan of this performance." Another person added, "Not impressed with him." One critic noted, "Wow that was horrendous. I think I just lost my hearing." "His performance was not good at all," wrote another.
One fan wrote, "Looks like he’s eating the microphone !! lol. Not my favorite!!" Another fan said, "Haven’t t liked him since day 1.. sorry 🤷🏼♀️." One viewer stated, "Ugh no, why bother singing, he could just stand there and america will still vote for him."
Jack Blocker performs an embarrassing moonwalk
Singer and songwriter, Ciara, appeared on 'American Idol' Season 22 to help aspiring singers with their dance moves. She aimed to teach the Top 7 contestants some quick and easy moves that could enhance their performances and stage presence.
However, Jack Blocker had an embarrassing moment during the rehearsals with Ciara. The guest mentor asked Jack to show the dance moves that he performed with his band. While attempting the moves, he became nervous and ended up awkwardly attempting the moonwalk. However, Jack admitted in the confessional that the moonwalk was 'embarrassing'.
Will Jack Blocker advance to the Top 5?
'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Jack Blocker has put forth his best efforts to earn the viewers' votes. However, due to recent backlash, he may be at risk of elimination. Jack has faced criticism for the last few episodes, particularly for his facial expressions.
Furthermore, Jack's expressions were cited as one of the reasons why ABC show judges, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, rejected him during the audition. However, Jack reflected on the backlash in a recent interview and noted, "I know where my lane is at this point and so I’m confident to stick with what I know and what I believe in."
Jack added, "I know that it's not necessarily going to please everybody, but I'm content with that at this point. I'm just having fun up there."
