Emmy Russell was eliminated after reaching top 5 of American Idol Season 22

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After Emmy Russell was eliminated from 'American Idol' Season 22 following the top 5 round, fans took to social media to express their frustration, with many arguing that she didn't deserve to reach that stage of the competition.

Some fans argued that she should have been eliminated earlier in the competition, attributing her top 5 presence to nepotism, alluding to her renowned grandmother. Fans claimed that Emmy's advancement in the competition was not solely based on her talent but rather on her family connections.

On X, one fan wrote, "Sorry, but the fact that Emmy Russell made it into the final 5 is based on who she is related to, imo. She's talented, but not American Idol level & Tristan needs to come back next year instead of this year (come on 15 ?). McKenna & Julia should be there instead." "Emmy Russell still coasting on the tails of nepotism," said another.

"Emmy Russell is growing on me but I don’t want to hear her own songs and I don’t love the nepotism. If any other rando came on the show with her same singing ability, they wouldn’t make it past the audition," added another.

Lionel calls Emmy Russell a 'superstar'

Lionel commented that he couldn't detect any nerves in Emmy's performance and remarked that she was transitioning into the "superstar" lane with her recent performance. Meanwhile, Katy questioned why Emmy didn't move around more on stage but acknowledged that it was the best Emmy had ever sounded.

Emmy delivered a soulful rendition of "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon while seated at the piano, showcasing her vocal talent and musicality.

Emmy Russell faces anxiety in the last few performances 

During Emmy Russell's performance on 'American Idol' Season 22, judge Luke Bryan offered her support and encouragement, particularly sensing her nervousness. Despite her apprehension, Luke reassured Emmy that she was shining brightly. He emphasized the importance of enjoying the moment and reminded her to love singing and have fun with it.
