SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Sam Kelly-Cohen aka Kayko was 'accidentally' selected for the ABC show after he arrived at the singing competition just to support his best friend, Abby Blake. Kayko has performed his original songs since his auditions which almost sounded similar.

In the latest episode, Kayko was advanced to the Top 20 contestants and he performed another original song to earn viewers' votes and grab a spot in the Top 14 aspiring singers. In the latest episode, Kayko performed 'Over You' and received compliments from the ABC show judges.

Katy Perry said, "You're going to be a mega star. I'm going to see you on tour." Luke Bryan claimed that Kayko was in the singing competition because he kept his eye on the prize. Lionel Richie noted, "Who are you really? I believe in you. As a songwriter, you are sitting on a gold mine."

Despite the ABC show judges' compliments, Kayko failed to impress the viewers. A social media user tweeted, "Kayko has yet to display any range this season. Each of his songs sound very similar. Maybe that's ok, but I need more than this. Sing The Doors or Travis Tritt or Jaheim or something. Show range Young Man!" Another person claimed, "He is awful."

Another internet user penned, "This guy kayko wanna be owl city so bad." Another Reddit user said, "Kayko gotta go. He’s so cheesy." Another viewer wrote, "I do not get the kayko hype? not impressed by his songs or his voice, and there's nothing distinguishable about him. he's obviously talented, but when we are talking about the best of the best, i'm so not seeing it."



 



 



 

Kayko accused of 'pushing' his original songs

'American Idol' Season 22 accidental contestant Kayko recently received backlash for performing only his original songs in the ABC show. During the latest episode, Kayko shared his musical journey and how he learned to write and produce his songs. He revealed that he started pasting sticky notes with his songs' names on the wall.

Kayko claimed that his wall was soon filled with sticky notes as he has written more than 400 songs so far. The aspiring singer also has his band and he has been accused of using the ABC show stage just to promote his songs and band.

Kayko dedicates emotional performance to his mom

'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Kayko performed during the first night in Disney and was mentored by Tori Kelly. He performed his original song, 'How To Live Without You', which he wrote after his mother's death. He dedicated his performance to his late mother and left the audience as well as the mentor Tori in tears.

Kayko shared, "I'm really excited to dedicate this performance to her." Tori suggested that he let the emotional part of the song take over the technically perfect vocals. She further noted, "A true artist is somebody who can evoke that emotion. You did just that."

'American Idol' Season 22 airs on Sundays and Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
