LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fans of 'American Idol' Season 22 criticized Kelly Cohen, also known as Kayko, after he was accused of consistently promoting his band while performing original songs on the show. Critics argued that Kayko should veer away from showcasing originals and instead focus on delivering different types of performances.

The critics contended that Kayko's emphasis on original songs appeared to be more about promoting his band rather than showcasing his versatility as a performer. "So Kayko is just here to promote his band's music," said a user in Twitter. "kayko stop with original songs... please...," added another. "I'm so annoyed Kayko got thru. Will be rooting against him in the top 24," another one wrote.

Not just this, but when Kayko was selected last week for too 24, some fans seemed to not like the decision too and thought other singers deserved his spot. "Kayko's spot should've gone to Michael Rice," a user had commented.

"Kayko INTO Top 24? Eh I wouldn't have put him through --," added another.

Kayko named as 'accidental idol'

Kelly-Cohen, leading the band named Kayko, impressed the celebrity trio with his original song titled “Time of Your Life” during the two-night event. His performance earned him a ticket to Hollywood and garnered attention on social media, where he was dubbed the "Accidental Idol."

Following his audition, Katy Perry expressed her admiration for Kelly-Cohen's talent. She was so impressed that she went beyond labeling him as an "accident" and instead referred to him as an "opportunity." This shift in perception from being seen as accidental to being recognized as an opportunity highlighted the transformative impact of Kelly-Cohen's performance and potential in the eyes of the judges.

In the caption, Kayko opened up about his ongoing grieving process, acknowledging the profound impact his mother's passing had on him. He expressed how writing the song for his performance had played a significant role in his healing journey, providing comfort and solace during difficult times.
