'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 1 Review: Netflix show sticks to the formula that made it such a massive hit
Contains spoilers and speculations for 'Emily in Paris' reader's discretion advised
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The first half of the fourth season of 'Emily in Paris' effectively demonstrates that it is Emily Cooper's (Lily Collins) world, and we are just living in it. Emily's adventure began with her quest to incorporate herself into the classical realm of Parisian life and has now expanded into much more. Today, it's less about Paris, but much about romance, with a sprinkle of career ambitions, friendships, and, of course, plenty of drama.
The first part of 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 finally clears the air about who Emily finally chooses between Gabriel (Lucas Barvo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), putting an end to the cliche love triangle, but as we all know, this show is so ingrained in the classical tropes that it's safe to assume that it's not gonna bid goodbye to its favorite cliché. So, if not Alfie, Season 4 of 'Emily in Paris' may count on Camille (Camille Razat), the original member of the love triangle.
Familiar tropes get a modern makeover in 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 1
Even if critics haven't been kind to 'Emily in Paris', it's admirable that the show's creators are aware of this and, despite any fear of criticism, continue to do what they want, that too with much fanfare and anticipation.
Now that you look closely, Emily has everything an ordinary girl wants. Despite having a steady profession, supportive friends, and, of course, attractive men, she always ends up with obstacles, which she overcomes and saves the day, but new challenges arise and she must rescue the day again. It may seem like a recurring spiral of clichés, but the narrative works its magic here, as you may have seen the love triangle too many times, yet it comes out natural and refreshing in 'Emily in Paris'.
Yes, the show's script has nothing fresh to offer, but its ability to adapt to contemporary trends is commendable. Like the 'glass skin' trend, Kadiance's product in the finale highlights the show's writing while also attempting to incorporate current trends.
In my opinion, another excellent aspect of the 'Emily in Paris', is its cinematography which continues to be a strong point. Paris is represented in all of its beauty, with breathtaking vistas that add greatly to the entire ambience. The use of color and lighting effectively creates a visually appealing and engaging experience.
'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 1 continues to dazzle with fashion outings
High-end fashionable outfits are one of the show's strong suits. Yes, we can give credit to the show's creator, Darren Star for it, who was also the creative brain behind the famous 'Sex and the City' therefore, it was expected that the show would include extravagant clothing, top-notch accessories, and high-end fashion vibes.
This season of 'Emily in Paris' has a lot of great outfits that I am sure fashion enthusiasts would want to emulate in their style.
Lily Collins and Lucas Bravo mesmerize with their chemistry in 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 1
Another excellent feature of the show is its ensemble cast, which brings the characters to life in every way.
Lily Collins, as Emily Cooper, retains her trademark charm and enthusiasm. While her character's development is once again restricted, Collins convincingly conveys Emily's tenacity. Her chemistry with Lucas Bravo is another highlight of the show as it is incredibly mesmerizing.
Lucas remains a captivating figure, despite the fact that his character's growth is hampered by the show's emphasis on romantic entanglements but his restaurant goals are also highlighted this time.
Ashley Park's portrayal of Mindy Chen is another positive aspect of the show as with great timing and humorous energy she successfully adds to the series' overall feel. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu delivers an excellent performance as Sylvie Grateau, the stylish and intimidating fashion businesswoman. Her character's richness and deep emotions are beautifully portrayed and her chemistry with Arnaud Binard is definitely applaud-worthy.
That being said, 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 1 does not provide anything new or unusual that we have not seen before, but the show continues to create a reputation for itself thanks to superb performances, acting abilities, fashion statements, and many other things.
Overall, if the show is getting its fourth season, it's a testament to its popularity among viewers. Yes, the show's lighthearted tone and easygoing storylines are addictive and can make you binge-watch the entire show in one sitting.
More of the same, with its virtues and flaws being steady, I am certain that Part 2 of 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 will get more love and admiration, as Emily is not going to stop until we are all enamored with her charm.
