PARIS, FRANCE: While Paris shines with romance, the Season 3 conclusion of 'Emily in Paris' revealed that Alfie's (Lucien Laviscount) heart bleeds with pain as he ends his relationship with Emily Cooper (Lily Collins).

Creative brainchild of Darren Star, the romantic comedy-drama follows Emily's life in Paris, where she gets entangled in a love triangle with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie.

Alfie, who was introduced in Season 3, starts dating Emily but their relationship is far from uncomplicated.

However, the startling split not only represented a watershed moment for the two main characters but also laid the groundwork for a dramatic change in the show's dynamic, as it is yet to be seen how things will turn out between Alfie and Emily in Season 4.

Why did Alfie part ways with Emily Cooper in 'Emily in Paris' Season 3?

Alfie and Emily were already dealing with challenges in their relationship, which were exacerbated in the season finale. Both Emily and Alfie attend Gabriel and Camille's (Camille Razat) engagement party, but Camille's speech convinces Alfie that he should not be with Emily.

In the season finale, Camille discloses the truth about the 'Gabriel Pact' during her wedding speech.

Heartbroken by the revelation, Alfie informs Emily that he is not her second choice and breaks up with her.

Emily tries to convince him otherwise but Alfie does not believe her and ends the relationship, believing that he was never her first choice.

Is Alfie's past relationships the reason behind his breakup with Emily Cooper in 'Emily in Paris' Season 3?

Alfie's breakup with Emily might be attributed to Emily feeling divided between two men and maintaining Alfie as a second choice, which he confesses he dislikes the most. However, the underlying problem can be linked to his previous toxic relationships.

In Season 2 of the show, Alfie admitted that his prior relationships ended terribly, leaving him apprehensive about introducing Emily to his parents.

This reluctance originated from thoughts of another messy split, a trend in his life. Despite starting to open up to Emily, Alfie’s earlier experiences made him cautious of new relationships.

When Alfie unexpectedly breaks up with Emily in Season 3, it displays his lingering grief and dread of heartbreak, as his fears are heightened by his understanding of the past between Emily and Gabriel.

Feeling like Emily’s second option, Alfie broke their relationship to prevent repeating previous errors.
