'American Idol' Season 22 judge Katy Perry got emotional during the Top 7 contestants' powerful performances

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 Judge's song contest episode was filled with a roller coaster of emotions, especially for Katy Perry. The ABC show judge received internet outrage for fake crying multiple times during the latest episode.

Katy broke down in the episode around four times. The ABC show judge had her first meltdown during Abi Carter's emotional and powerful performance. She broke down and lay on the judges' table as she fought back her emotions. Katy then broke down in tears during Jack Blocker's performance of Willie Nelson's song, 'Always On My Mind'.

After Jack's performance, Katy said, "I'm crying because I'm so emotional because I feel like you've been fully realized." Emmy Russell's emotional tribute to her grandma, Loretta Lynn, left Katy sobbing. However, this wasn't enough, Katy wrapped up the episode with the tearful elimination of Kaibrienne.

However, the viewers were left furious over Katy's fake cry and called her out for being 'super emotional'. A social media user tweeted, "Katy Perry is such a meme." Another person added, "But why is Katy crying wtf.' Another critic noted, "Is Katy pregnant or on her period? She is super emotional tonight lol."

Another internet user said, "Has katy Perry fake cried in this episode of #AmericanIdol like four times what is going on." Another X user wrote, "Omg why is Katy crying all the time." Another viewer noted, "Katy crying. Again lol." Another person stated, "I knew it. Ok.. stop crying so much lol."

Katy Perry wins 'American Idol' Season 22 Judge's song contest

'American Idol' Season 22 star Katy Perry won the judge's song contest round after multiple contestants picked her songs to perform. Only a few aspiring singers chose Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan's choice of songs. After winning the round, Katy was awarded the chance to save one of the least-vote contestants.

McKenna Faith Breinholt and Kaibrienne Richins aka KB were in the bottom two. However, Katy tearfully announced that although she loves both contestants, only one can be saved. Katy saved McKenna, eliminating KB from the singing competition.

'American Idol' judge Katy Perry debuts hair-do during live episode

'American Idol' judge Katy Perry debuted a new hair-do during a live episode. Before the episode aired, Katy shared a video of herself in the short hair and makeup chair. She captioned the post, "Thoughts, comments, concerns?"

Katy received backlash over her new look and cutting her hair short. However, the ABC show judge confirmed that she was just wearing a wig. She said in the episode, "Shout out to my Katy Cat fans who think I got a haircut. They're traitors. This is a wig." Soon after Katy's hair reveal, Luke Bryan pinched the back of her hair and insisted, "Let me check it."
