'American Idol' Season 22: Viewers slam Emmy Russell's 'too many mistakes' amid lack of confidence
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Emmy Russell recently performed Selena Gomez's song, 'Lose You to Love Me' but faced backlash over her lack of confidence. During the rehearsals, Emmy performed the song for the guest mentor Meghan Trainor but she forgot the lyrics.
Meghan helped Emmy with the lyrics but the aspiring singer struggles with the melodies. The guest mentor advised Emmy to change the melody to make it easier for herself. Despite the changes, Emmy struggled during her live performance because of her nervousness.
Emmy appeared to mess up her performance with her visible anxiety and stage fright and received backlash from the viewers. A social media user commented, "Emmy Russell needs to do something other than just stand there and wave her left hand. ANYTHING."
Another person added, "Emmy Russell is too terrified 2 be on stage. She needs 2 work on her insecurities first, then try again. Her fear is crippling her because she is off key a lot. Nobody wants 2 hear that on the radio. She needs 2 work on herself first, then try again." Another critic noted, "I still say the only reason that Emmy made it this far is her grandmother."
Another internet user penned, "Emmy is a no for me as well. Tonight is just terrible." Another X user tweeted, "There’s something really endearing about Emmy, but there’s too many mistakes at this stage in the competition. Probably won’t matter anyways." Another viewer said, "Too much stage fright for Emm."
