HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA: During his appearance on Sunday, April 21 episode of 'American Idol' Season 22, Jack Blocker performed the Bob Dylan song "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright". Despite delivering a strong performance, Katy Perry was caught up in an unpleasant conversation with the ABC participant.
When Katy urged him to cease making faces, he responded, "Naw, it's what I do."

Katy stated, "You have just grown into your authentic self. You’re just so cool. I was wrong. You’re the coolest."
The conversation took an 'awkward' turn when Katy asked the participant if he smoked a pipe, which he promptly denied. Host Ryan Seacrest intervened, cutting the conversation midway by saying, "Let’s not answer that on sunday night live on 'American Idol.'"
On Reddit, fans wrote, "That pipe joke was so awkward." Another user asked, "Why would Katy ask that." On Instagram, fans noted, "Katy Perry is so triggered by this guy."

Who is Jack Blocker on 'American Idol' Season 22?
Jack, a 25-year-old from Dallas, Texas, showcased his talent with an explosive rendition of Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" during his Top 20 performance.
The Richardson native earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood after auditioning for the ABC singing competition. Prior to his 'American Idol' journey, Jack grew up in the North Texas region.

Jack attended Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, where he met and eventually married his wife, Georgia. Jack's journey into music started unconventionally late; he was 17 when he decided to pursue it, surprising even his parents with his newfound passion.
Truman and Caryn, Jack's parents, describe him as an active child who enjoyed athletics and had a strong religious upbringing. However, Jack also enjoys painting and writing, making music a natural progression for him. In 2022, Jack and his wife relocated to Nashville to pursue his goal of a music career.
Jack Blocker advanced in 'American Idol' after re-vote
With a penchant for vintage sounds, the self-taught folk singer-songwriter took a bold step by auditioning for 'American Idol' late last year. The family told WFAA that Jack was the second-to-last Nashville tryout.
Two of the three judges initially voted against Jack advancing in the tournament. However, the production team intervened and requested a re-vote.
Jack seized his second chance, earning a golden ticket to Hollywood. Jack believes the ups and downs of being in Nashville and the music industry have helped him deal with the emotional rollercoaster that comes with being on the singing competition program.
His parents and three sisters have every reason to be proud. Jack is now living his dream, and the world can follow along on his journey.
