HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA: During his appearance on Sunday, April 21 episode of 'American Idol' Season 22, Jack Blocker performed the Bob Dylan song "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright". Despite delivering a strong performance, Katy Perry was caught up in an unpleasant conversation with the ABC participant.

When Katy urged him to cease making faces, he responded, "Naw, it's what I do."

Katy stated, "You have just grown into your authentic self. You’re just so cool. I was wrong. You’re the coolest."

The conversation took an 'awkward' turn when Katy asked the participant if he smoked a pipe, which he promptly denied. Host Ryan Seacrest intervened, cutting the conversation midway by saying, "Let’s not answer that on sunday night live on 'American Idol.'"

On Reddit, fans wrote, "That pipe joke was so awkward." Another user asked, "Why would Katy ask that."  On Instagram, fans noted, "Katy Perry is so triggered by this guy."

While other users couldn't get behind his performance writing, "I just can’t get on the Jack Blocker train. So hard to watch him perform." Another person wondered, "Idk what y’all see in Jack."

Jack Blocker advanced in 'American Idol' after re-vote

With a penchant for vintage sounds, the self-taught folk singer-songwriter took a bold step by auditioning for 'American Idol' late last year. The family told WFAA that Jack was the second-to-last Nashville tryout.

Two of the three judges initially voted against Jack advancing in the tournament. However, the production team intervened and requested a re-vote.

Jack seized his second chance, earning a golden ticket to Hollywood. Jack believes the ups and downs of being in Nashville and the music industry have helped him deal with the emotional rollercoaster that comes with being on the singing competition program.

His parents and three sisters have every reason to be proud. Jack is now living his dream, and the world can follow along on his journey.
