'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Jack Blocker impressed ABC show judges

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 recently revealed the Top 20 contestants who vied for a spot in the Top 14 and Jack Blocker was one of them. The aspiring singer was excited to advance to the next round. Jack chose to perform 'You Don't Mess Around With Jim' by Jim Croce but the viewers were not happy with his song choice and performance.

Meanwhile, Jack appeared to impress the ABC show judges, especially, Lionel Richie. The judge admitted that he was wrong at his audition. Lionel apologized and confessed that he had Jack all wrong. He said, "That’s the perfect song. Your personality is now coming out. You did very well."

Katy Perry had a similar sentiment and told Jack that she respects his choices as an artist. Luke Bryan chimed in and said, "It's all coming together. Great originals. Great covers." However, Jack opted to perform a song which was popular back in the 70s but wasn't a classic. The critics also called out his singing style.

A social media user tweeted, "I like Blocker, but that was his worst performance. Should have done a classic slower tempo Jim Croce track." Another person added, "Jim Croce rolled over. Stop." Another critic noted, "Alright who is voting for Jack and why??? 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️"

Another 'American Idol' viewer claimed, "Here we go again. People voting for the wrong reasons. SUCKS!!!" Another Instagram user commented, "His singing style is growing on me."

Jack Blocker takes his family to 'American Idol' set

'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Jack Blocker brought his mother and wife to introduce them behind the scenes of the ABC show. Jack was excited to bring his family on the set and they also got to meet the ABC show host, Ryan Seacrest. Jack's mother called the experience 'fun'. 

Meanwhile, Jack claimed that his mother has a t-shirt with his face on it and she wears it around. The aspiring singer's mother tells people to vote for him. The ABC show contestant asked his fans to say hi to her if they ran into her in Dallas.

Jack Blocker reflects on his 'American Idol' experience

'American Idol' Season 22 judge Lionel Richie was not on board with Katy Perry and Luke Bryan to advance Jack Blocker to Hollywood Week and rejected him during the auditions. The aspiring singer has also received backlash over his weird facial expressions while singing. Despite the negative comments, he has survived in the singing competition and made it to the Top 20.

During his pre-performance package, Jack shared his ABC show experience. He admitted, "I definitely never dreamed I would be in the Top 20 of 'American Idol'." Jack claimed, "Singing on that stage is such a blast. It's just so much fun. I can't even tell you. It's awesome." The aspiring singer further noted, "As long as people want me to stay, I'll be here."

'American Idol' Season 22 airs on Sundays and Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
