'The Baxters': Cast and character guide on who’s playing who in Prime Video's family drama series

LAS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Based on the best-selling novel by Karen Kingsbury, Prime Video's 'The Baxter' is set to hit the streaming platform on March 28. 

This series has been in the works since 2018 when Roma Downey—an actor, producer, and director—announced its development for her production house, LightWorkers Media.

Unfortunately, even though several episodes were created, none of them were released.

Elizabeth Baxter (Roma Downey), John Baxter (Ted McGinley), and their adult children are the central characters of the story.

The series examines the complexities of a family as they attempt to navigate their reality in the face of adversity.

Renowned actress, director and producer Roma Downey portray the family matriarch Elizabeth Baxter, who radiates strength and warmth.

While overcoming her obstacles, she provides direction and encouragement to her children.

The Northern Ireland-born Downey debuted as an actress in 1998's 'One Life to Live.'

Her part in the CBS series 'Touched by an Angel' helped her become well-known after her debut, earning her praise and multiple accolades.

The actress has made appearances off-Broadway and on stage with the renowned Abbey Theatre as well.

Downey also serves as the president of LightWorkers, which is jointly owned by her, her husband, Mark Burnett, and MGM.

John is a loving husband who infuses the family with a little sweetness through his encouraging presence.

After being discovered in a prominent magazine by a talent agency, McGinley began his career as a model and made a seamless transition to acting.

Although praised highly for his humorous roles, the actor is equally well-liked for his villainous deeds.

Additionally, he was an associate producer on 'Do You Believe?' and the executive producer of the short film 'Sam, Again.'

'Keeping Up with the Joneses,' 'The Mentalist,' 'Hard Time: Hostage Hotel,' and 'Revenge of the Nerds' are some of his notable acting credits.

In the series, Ali Cobrin portrays Kari Baxter Jacobs.

Kari is married to a college professor, and the first season will centre on the difficulties she is having in her marriage after finding out about her spouse's infidelity.

The actress competed in the Junior Olympics and studied to become a classical ballerina.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Cobrin relocated to Los Angeles, following her high school graduation, in an attempt to pursue a film career.

In 2008, she debuted as an actor in the short film 'One' and made her television debut in 2009 with the show 'Kings by Night.'

She also made a cameo appearance in the 2011 film 'Friends with Benefits.'

Among her well-known credits are 'Girl House,' 'American Reunion,' 'Lap Dance,' 'Neighbours,' and 'My Birthday Romance.'

Josh Plasse as Luke Baxter

In the series, Josh Plasse portrays the endearing yet rather immature character of Luke Baxter.

In 2018, Plasse, who is also a writer and producer, made his acting debut in a 'Happily Never After' episode.

The Virginia-born actor is well-known for his portrayals in the television series 'Grown-ish,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' and 'iCarly,' among others.

Masey McLain assumes the role of the adventurous, free-spirited Ashley Baxter, who brings chaos and lightheartedness into the dynamics of the family.

First appearing in the 2011 television series 'Reed Between the Lines,' McLain gained notoriety in 2016 for her performance as Rachel Joy Scott in the motion picture 'I'm Not Ashamed.'

Apart from her career as an actor, she also pursued a music career, releasing her debut album in 2018 and contributing as a songwriter.

After making his acting debut in 'His Father's Son,' Allyn became well-known for his performance in 'The Quad.'

Allyn gained notoriety in 2020 for writing and starring in the contemporary western 'No Man's Land.'
