‘One Night Only’ is set in a fictional version of New York City, but did the filming of the rom-com actually take place there? Yes, the cast and crew shot across several locations in Manhattan and Queens. However, not all real-life places have been publicly disclosed during filming to avoid fans and crowds gathering there and disrupting the production, but some spots have been revealed in recent reports. According to Tonboriday, one of the locales that made it onto the screen is White Horse Tavern in the West Village, Manhattan. The iconic pub was established in the 19th century and is recognizable among visitors. Not only that, but the West Village streets were also used to bring that New York charm, with tree-lined avenues, brownstones, and cobbled roads.
The Foundry in Long Island City, Queens, also provided the backdrop for some of the scenes. But it was redesigned for the film. The 19th-century industrial venue was turned into a luxurious elite party for single people in the movie. Other places appearing in the R-rated film include the George Washington Bridge, Bryant Park, Midtown Manhattan’s Theater District, and, of course, Times Square. But most importantly, there is one particular setting that is shown at the end of the movie. In the final scene, viewers see Owen (Callum Turner) and Allie (Monica Barbaro) meet at a spot that holds special value for her. It was none other than the Little Red Lighthouse under the George Washington Bridge. It turns out the lighthouse was meaningful for director Will Gluck himself. During an interview with SlashFilm, he revealed, “The lighthouse means a lot to me, which is why I wrote that. I grew up very close to it. That book, ‘Little Red Lighthouse,’ is a real book that my parents read to me.”
He added, “No one on the crew knew it existed. And I’ve shot a few movies in New York City now, and I really liked shooting places that you haven’t seen in other movies, which is why we do the whole Empire State Building fake-out. I love going to locations that have never been shot before.” For those looking to watch the Universal Studios feature, the movie comes with an unusual plot where singles can legally engage intimately once a year. The official description reads, “Recently dumped Owen and hopeful romantic Allie might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter. They both feel a spark when they meet, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart. As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think.”
