'One Night Only' drops trailer starring Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, and iconic 'The Breakfast Club' star
The trailer for Universal Pictures' latest romantic comedy, 'One Night Only,' starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, is out. The film, co-written, produced, and directed by Will Gluck, explores a fictional New York where premarital s*x is illegal, except for one night of the year. The film follows Owen and Allie, played by Turner and Barbaro, as they navigate the fateful night, developing a better understanding of each other and their own desires. Per the synopsis, "Recently dumped Owen and hopeful romantic Allie might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter. They feel a spark upon meeting, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart. As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think."
The story of 'One Night Only' is based on a script by Travis Braun, which Gluck re-wrote. The director is known for making popular rom-coms that often deal with love-starved characters. His previous works include 'Easy A', 'Friends with Benefits', and 'Anyone but You', featuring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. All of these films have been box-office successes, with the last one grossing over $220 million worldwide, according to Variety. Interestingly, Gluck has also co-written and directed the hybrid live-action adaptation of 'Peter Rabbit' and 'Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway'.
Monica Barbaro rose to fame in 2022 through her performance in 'Top Gun: Maverick'. Since then, she has been part of several popular projects, including 'FUBAR', 'At Midnight', 'Crime 101', and 'A Complete Unknown'. The latter earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Callum Turner is also an accomplished actor, known for 'Queen and Country', 'Glue', 'Masters of the Air', and 'Eternity'. Besides them, the film also boasts an ensemble supporting cast.
Screen legend Molly Ringwald will be seen as Turner’s mother, and LeVar Burton plays her partner. Maya Hawke from 'Stranger Things', Julia Fox from 'Uncut Gems', indie pop icon King Princess, 'Saturday Night Live' fame Ben Marshall, Este Haim, and Ziwe round out the cast. A popular New York personality known as 'Radio Man' is also confirmed to appear in the film. 'One Night Only' is produced by Jacqueline Monetta alongside Will Gluck through his company Olive Bridge Entertainment. It will be released in cinemas worldwide on August 7.
