SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: The K-pop industry's emphasis on a skinny body for their female artists has led to fans trolling and fat-shaming those who do not fit these standards even the slightest. In fact, Red Velvet's Wendy had shared that her label SM had scolded her in her pre-debut days when she broke her diet on her birthday to eat a piece of sugarless cake. TWICE's Jeongyeon has been constantly fat-shamed after she gained weight. With the industry debuting idols as young as 14, their baby fat is often mocked as seen in the case of NMIXX's Jiwoo and IVE's Liz.

With slim members like Ahn Yujin and Wonyoung, member Liz who is only 17 has been fat-shamed for having chubbier cheeks. In the last few weeks, during public IVE schedules, fan-taken photos have been circulating of Liz where her body looks big that led to trolls calling her offensive names and body shaming her. IVE fans were upset as they defended her. They also pointed out that as she was still young, it was good that her label was not controlling her body size. However, now, the rumors that Liz's photos were edited to make her look big have fans upset.

IVE’s Liz edited to look big

Pann is a popular Korean chat forum where Knetizens gossip. Negative posts like that where users fat-shame idols like Liz often go viral. Well, on August 28, after a photo of the IVE member looking broader than usual was posted, a fan dug into the photos that were uploaded on Pann. They compared it with the original fan-taken photos or photos uploaded by official broadcast stations and noticed that in the Pann versions, Liz was edited to look bigger.

The IVE fan wondered if OP (original poster) was editing Liz on purpose to get more trolls to send hate to her since it is very common for female idols to get cyber bullied if they don't fit the usual standard skinny size. Some also noticed that Liz’s nose, cheeks and forehead were edited to look bigger.

‘Evil for doing that’

Knetz user made comments such as, “They're going as far as manipulating her pictures? What do they get from doing all of these??,” and “They're not just blatantly stretching her body to look bigger, they're doing it as subtly as they can so that the pictures look natural... Because if the edited pictures look too obvious, people would just laugh at the OP. They're such evil for doing that.”

Another wondered why fans were fat-shaming her in the first place, “I cannot believe what I just read, not only the skinny shaming but also fat shaming? Liz isn’t even fat, Korean fans and fans in general need to learn the different between HEALTHY and overweight. It’s not your responsibility to check their weight every second, weirdos.” One tweeted, “FOR THOSE WHO SAY KIM JI WON AKA IVE LIZ IS FAT IS F**KIN BLIND -_- SHE HAS HEALTHY BODY YOU R***** SH*TS MY GF IS THE CUTESTTTTTTTTTTTT.” Another posted, “These people are sick and twisted in so many ways.”
