Netizens cheer as they falsely believe Jeongyeon slimmed down, TWICE fans slam fatphobia

TWICE’s Jeongyeon has been in the news lately for her appearance whether it is for trolls mocking her weight or fans slamming JYPE for mistreating her and ONCEs (TWICE’s fandom) are tired. 2021 onwards Jeongyeon has been going on and off hiatus for several reasons. It was first reported that she had to get a surgery done for a herniated disc in her neck followed by a hiatus for her mental health. When she came back in late 2021 for TWICE’s first English single ‘The Feels’ netizens noticed that she had put on some weight.
And while fans are happy that Jeongyeon is more confident with her appearance now, there have been trolls sending hate and making fatphobic comments while body-shaming the TWICE member. Despite the K-pop idol barely being over the usual skinny standard that female idols are forced to adhere to, haters took to sending her nasty names and called her obese. Even those who did not comment, their double standards are now evident as they falsely believe that Jeongyeon has lost the weight she put on in 2021 and are cheering her for it.

An insider had reported that Jeongyeon probably put on a little weight because of the steroids for her surgery and anxiety medicines she had to take during her hiatus. When TWICE finally opened their personal Instagram accounts, Jeongyeon posted old photos during the ‘Perfect World’ era, and on May 20. One of the outfits for the music video included a plaid crop top, half skirt and black harness paired with short blonde hair and dangling earrings. Jeongyeon later revealed that it was her manager who was handling her personal Instagram account.
While fans know that the Instagram photos are of 2021 before her hiatus and subsequent weight gain, non-fans falsely believed that Jeongyeon had posted new photos and she had once again become slimmer. They cheered her by claiming that she looked beautiful and healthy. ONCEs found it off-putting that netizens were once again commenting on Jeongyeon’s appearance and claiming that she was healthier now that she had lost weight.

Netizens made comments like, “OMO She is so beautiful! Hopefully she will be more healthy,” “You mean she's gaining attention for losing weight,” and “This exactly! They’re saying she looks “healthier” like she didn’t look healthy just a few months ago. They should just say that she’s looking better without the extra weight.” Another fan pointed out, “Aren’t these pics old tho?”
A ONCE wrote, “She looks fantastic, don't get me wrong, but i think we need to get the facts in order first. They're not new pics so saying she looks "healthier now" but using older pictures kind of negates what they're trying to say, you know?” Another fan slammed back, “Jeongyeon Fat jeongyeon this Jeongyeon that , she still remains as one of the most popular , stable , prettiest & talented kpop idols while your favs can’t even get their ass up to produce new songs.”
