IVE's 'Love Dive' beats 'Kings of K-pop' BIGBANG on 'Music Bank' show, impresses fans

Having only debuted in December 2021, the 'monster rookies' IVE now have a total of 16 music show wins

IVE has truly snatched the title ‘Monster Rookies’ as they have been turning heads ever since their debut. Dives (IVE’s fandom) were first excited when it was revealed that two IZ*ONE members, Yujin and Wonyoung, were part of IVE. Their debut single ‘Eleven’ saw immediate success which shocked everyone since they’re not from the Big 4 K-pop labels. The new girl group ended up getting 13 wins which made them the fastest and only girl group to get the most music show wins in their debut era. And now they’re maintaining their winning streak as they beat BIGBANG with their comeback single 'Love Dive'. 

Before we had the likes of BTS, Blackpink, EXO and other third-gen groups dominating K-pop, BIGBANG was one of the biggest 2nd Gen K-pop groups. They were also dubbed the ‘Kings of K-pop’. Unfortunately, they went on a hiatus as their military era began. It took them five years but they’re finally back with the reunion single ‘Still Life’. The song achieved 62 perfect all-kills (topping all major Korean charts 62 times) and even got a music show win without promoting it.

IVE wins against BIGBANG

In fact, before IVE’s impressive win on the KBS show, BIGBANG won against IVE’s ‘Love Dive’ on Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ on April 14. Despite not promoting or performing the song, BIGBANG won purely on the basis of digital sales and fans’ votes. Well, IVE decided to heat up the competition and earn their title of ‘Monster Rookies.’ They won against BIGBANG’s ‘Still Life’ on April 15 on KBS’ music show ‘Music Bank’.

Fans cheered as IVE’s digital and physical scores were enough for them to win even though they hadn’t performed. It was also a special win since member Wonyoung is an MC and she got to hand the trophy to her group. IVE won with 12,095 points which is the highest score on the show in 2022. This is the third win for ‘Love Dive’.

Fans cheered as one Dive tweeted, “Mc wonyoung finally had the chance to hand the trophy to ive LOOOK AT HER SMILE.” Another fan posted, “They deserve all the wins omg look at them.” A Knetizen posted, “Ah we need to congratulate them for this.” Another user felt it was fair as they pointed out, “Why would anybody be mad at this? ive is top 3 in digitals and has physicals while bigbang doesnt, and they showed up to promote it which raised broadcast points, of course they were going to win no matter what. music shows have never only been based on digital points.” Another fan joked, “FEMINISM HAS WON LADIES!”
