UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: Betrayal usually comes from those closest to us, 'The Voice' coach Gwen Stefani learned this the hard way. The recently aired episode 9 of the NBC singing competition show featured Team Gwen's vocal powerhouses- Jay Allen and Cara Brindisi being pitted against each other for the battles round.

Considering how different their vocals and style were, Gwen thought that it would be interesting to pair the duo. She roped in Jamaican rapper Sean Paul as her battle advisor to help her coach her team. As for the song, Gwen picked Don Henley and Stevie Nicks' 'Leather and Lace'. After some intense rehearsals, the duo took to the stage and delivered a performance that can only be described as flawless. Since both Jay and Cara had the experience of performing before crowds, they tapped into it for their battles round. This made the coaches' job even more complicated as they couldn't use lack of stage presence as a reason to pick one over the other. Eventually, Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Camila Cabello picked Jay as their winner. But their coach Gwen felt that Cara had a little more edge to her voice, so she picked her as the winner. But just as Jay was ready to leave the competition, Gwen hit her save button to retain him on her team. But that wasn't the only surprise element, as her husband/ OG coach Blake Shelton too hit the steal button. Jay now had to decide which coach he wanted to pick as his mentor.

Jay shocked everybody by picking country legend Blake as his new coach, ditching Gwen. Jay explained his decision by pointing out how Blake as a country icon would be able to help him a lot more compared to Gwen. This left Gwen fuming at Blake and shaking with rage. She called out her husband for betraying him, while host Carson Daly, and their fellow judges joked about the upcoming celebrity divorce.

'The Voice' fans too hopped onto the bandwagon and began trolling Blake for stealing an artist from his wife's team. A fan tweeted, "@blakeshelton #TheVoice Nice steal getting Jay from Gwen's team. Might be lonely in the dog house!" "@blakeshelton #TheVoice Great steal of Jay … good luck calming Gwen!!!," joked a fan. "Camila and Gwen ready to have a sleepover because Blake stole Gwen's artist lol. #TeamCamila #TheVoice," wrote a fan. "@blakeshelton #TheVoice nice steel Blake, hope Gwen don’t treat you to bad," added a fan.
