LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The long-awaited third and final season of the historical drama 'Vikings: Valhalla' is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

'Vikings: Valhalla,' which is set around a century after the events of its predesscor 'Vikings', introduces a fresh group of Viking heroes, Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), Freydis Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson), and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), which are deeply rooted in the history.

So, now the burining question arises if the shows 'Vikings' and 'Vikings: Valhalla' connected to one another?

Is 'Vikings' and 'Vikings: Valhalla' set in the same timeline?

To address this, no, both shows are not placed in the same timeline as 'Vikings: Valhalla' is set many years after the events of 'Vikings. 'Vikings', created by Michael Hirst, premiered on the History Channel in 2013.

The show originally focused on the adventures of the famous Norseman Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), starting with the Lindisfarne raid at the beginning of the Viking Age.

As the show proceeded, the focus switched to Ragnar’s sons, particularly Björn (Alexander Ludwig) and Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen), who became the primary protagonists by the time Ragnar died in season 4.

Even though the storylines of these characters brought the 'Vikings' to an end, there was still more to discover about Viking history, which was accomplished in 'Vikings: Valhalla' with the introduction of a new cast of deeply historical characters.

Is Harald Sigurdsson related to any 'Vikings' character?

However, this does not imply that the characters do not have the same ancestry as Harald is revealed to be a descendant of Viking figure Harald Finehair (Peter Franzen).

While there is no direct family connection to the characters in 'Vikings,' Harald in 'Vikings: Valhalla' has historical genealogy with Harald. In fact, Harald's bracelet in 'Vikings: Valhalla' is the same as King Harald Finehair's from the original series.

Do I need to watch 'Vikings' before viewing 'Vikings: Valhalla'?

No, you don't have to view 'Vikings' in order to watch 'Vikings: Valhalla'. There is a significant time gap between the events of the two shows, and the latter introduces new characters who have little to no connection to the former.

In addition, 'Vikings: Valhalla' stands alone as a new chapter in Viking history, chronicling the exploits of a fresh band of Vikings, their battles, and the long-standing clash between paganism and Christianity in mediaeval Europe.
