LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Set 100 years after the events of 'Vikings', the third and final season of Netflix's historical drama series 'Vikings: Valhalla' will follow Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett) on an ambitious voyage, as hinted by the trailer.

Jeb Stuart's historical series focuses on the struggle between the Vikings and the English, as well as the battle between the pagan and Christian groups of Vikings.

Season 2 of the show concluded with Leif and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) finally arriving in Constantinople.

Leif inherited Mariam's (Hayat Kamille) books and other resources, which will come in handy for his next trips, with the trailer confirming that Leif will embark on his most important voyage, which is also historically significant.

Where will Leif Erikson sail to in 'Vikings: Valhalla' Season 3?

Throughout the two seasons of 'Vikings: Valhalla', Leif is presented as a follower, accompanying Harald on his adventures.

While this does not align with Leif's historical reputation as a great explorer, things are about to change in Season 3, as it will serve as a watershed moment for the Viking warrior.

The third season trailer showed Leif actively seeking a ship to go west, alluding to his long-awaited expedition to a new continent known as Vinland, or North America in contemporary times.

The first trailer portrays Leif's ambition to set off on his own expedition as he expresses his intention to sail west in quest of a mysterious land he believes exists.

It's safe to assume that Leif will finally take command and start on the voyage that will solidify his position in history.

Is Leif Erikson's ambitious journey historically accurate?

Leif Erikson is a deeply entrenched historical figure who is mentioned in two sagas: the Saga of the Greenlanders and the Saga of Erik the Red.

According to All That's Interesting, about 1000 CE, Leif went westward and established a town in a place called Vinland, which is thought to be located in modern-day Newfoundland, which cements his significance in history as the first European to discover North America.

Erikson's findings challenge the popular narrative of Christopher Columbus's discovery of America, as Europeans had already been there for generations.
