'Vikings: Valhalla,' Netflix's latest historical drama series, released Friday, opening to favorable reviews from critics and viewers alike. The sequel to the hit History network drama 'Vikings' is set in an era that marked the decline of the Viking Age and is a perfect blend of facts and cinematic exaggeration, just like the flagship series. Taking place 100 years after the events of 'Vikings,' 'Vikings: Valhalla' follows a new generation of Norsemen as they fight for survival and glory in an increasingly intolerant Europe driven by Christianity.

Beginning with the slaughter of Christian Vikings at the Danelaw settlement, the first half of 'Vikings: Valhalla' is all about how the Vikings exact revenge on London. The series later focuses on the aftermath as some key characters vie for power and religious dominance while the rest fight to protect their own from falling prey. Moving at breakneck speed, 'Vikings: Valhalla' ended with Jarl Olaf celebrating his victory over Jarl Haakon, Harald, Leif, and Freydís at Kattegat. However, his celebrations were cut short after Sweyn Forkbeard announced his entry at the port city with the entire Danish fleet, looking to get even with Olaf after the latter betrayed him and his son King Canute. The ending has left many, including us, craving for more so read on to find out when Season 2 of 'Viking: Valhalla' drops and what to expect when the series returns.

When will 'Vikings: Valhalla' Season 2 drop?

News of Netflix ordering 24 episodes of 'Vikings: Valhalla' was first reported by Deadline in 2019 along with the announcement of the final season of 'Vikings.' 'Vikings: Valhalla' went on the floors in October 2020 and by November 2021, production was wrapped for the second season as well. There haven't been any official announcements from the makers' end but we can expect Season 2 of 'Vikings: Valhalla' to drop by late 2022 or early 2023.

What can we expect to see in 'Vikings: Valhalla' Season 2?

The premiere has left us with enough to seek our teeth into when it comes to expectations. With the arrival of Forkbeard at Kattegat, we can expect to see him hunt down Olaf and make him pay for his betrayal. We will also see a recovered Harald return, hopefully, to usurp Olaf and become the Jarl and eventual king of Norway. Freydís' destiny was revealed in the first half of Season 1 and the continuation could focus on her reaching it. As for Leif, we are going to have to wait to find out whether or not he attacked Forkbeard's grandson. His trajectory in Season 2 of 'Vikings: Valhalla' will be determined by it and though he's no Ragnar Lothbrok, we could expect to witness Leif Eriksson's rise as a legendary Viking.

Keep an eye on this space as we'll be updating it with more information about 'Vikings: Valhalla' Season 2 as it comes!
