Contains spoilers for 'Sunny' Episode 7

KYOTO, JAPAN: 'Sunny' Episode 7, released on Wednesday, August 14, has been no less than an emotional roller coaster ride for its characters and the viewers of the show. It brings focus on Suzie Sakamoto's (Rashida Jones) unusual friendship with Mixxy (annie the clumsy) as they have a major fallout, only to later have a heartwarming patch-up. On the individual front, Suzie Sakamoto continues to grieve for her husband and son, who have allegedly died in a plane crash.

Amid the personal battles, Suzie has to be mindful of the Yakuza that has messed up her life after the plane crash incident. Hime (YOU) has appointed a man to constantly spy on her. Her robot was even kidnapped in Episode 6, forcing her to meet Hime and give away the password of Masa Sakamoto's laptop. While Hime is undoubtedly the prime antagonist of the show, a new negative force seems to have been birthed in the latest episode that could bring new troubles for Suzie.

Suzie Sakamoto's homebot Sunny isn't at its best behavior in 'Sunny' Episode 7. Ever since it has returned from Hime's captivity, it has been acting weird to a point that raises serious concerns. Sunny used to be an emotionally intelligent robot, tasked to assist Suzie with household chores and help her navigate through her grief. Shockingly, it has a stark shift in its behavior and it all seems like Hime's doings.

Before releasing Sunny, Hime possibly hacked into Sunny's code. The alteration has now made the robot rude and selfish, it no longer cares about Suzie and would rather watch TV instead of talking to her.

On Mixxy's advice, Suzie even takes Sunny to a local shopkeeper to get it fixed. However, when the technician learns about the involvement of Yakuza, he refuses to help. Left with no choice, Suzie brings Sunny home and gets busy with her investigation of the ongoing mystery.

At this point, Suzie doesn't have all her attention on Sunny, which could turn fatal. 'Sunny' Episode 7 made it clear that Sunny is now capable of violence. The way he punched Mixxy for no reason hints that Hime has turned it into a villainous character. Even the local technician has advised Suzie to get rid of Sunny after spotting the malfunction in its code. Yet, Suzie ignores the warning. She has been holding onto Sunny because it contains memories of Masa Sakamoto, especially the ones from Imatech that Suzie was clueless about.

Sunny could have all the answers to Suzie's concerns and questions. The only problem is that its memory is locked and Suzie doesn't know a way to access it yet. Even though Suzie has been calm and patient with Sunny, we can't say the same for the robot. What concerns us is that it might end up attacking Suzie one day. As everything goes haywire in Suzie's life, we hope that Sunny is soon able to return to its default setting and not be the new antagonist in her life.

'Sunny' Episode 1 to 7 are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
