LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Yellowstone’ has been one of the greatest shows of this generation and revived the acting career of Kevin Costner. The Paramount series began in 2018 and went on to become one of the highest-rated shows on television. It also broke a lot of viewership records for the production giant and fans were hopeful that it would continue to run for a couple more seasons. However, the recent reports of a dispute between Costner and the creator Taylor Sheridan have put a lot of question marks on the future of the series. But things are definitely not going in the right direction as a new report has revealed that the show would be concluding after the remaining episodes of Season 5.

The entire controversy began with a report which stated that Sheridan might be looking to expand the universe with another superstar in sight. The report also noted that the Paramount executives are looking forward to ending the series “in its current form” and want to start a new project with Matthew McConaughey. Since then, it has been widely reported that all is not well between Costner and Sheridan. The main reason behind the rift was said to be the lead actor’s busy filming schedule and only wanted to spend a week shooting for the second part of the fifth edition. Although Paramount didn’t waste any time in dismissing any dispute, a new report has suggested that Paramount seems to have had enough of this rift and is planning to end the series with Season 5.

Sources say there's 'clearly' friction between the two

Citing a well-placed production source, New York Post reported that Costner and Sheridan “respect” each other, but there’s clearly some “friction” between them. The source added, “It’s the same as with any showrunner and big star — there’s respect, but there’s friction.”

On the other hand, another Hollywood source indicated that all the blame cannot be put on Costner because Sheridan always wants to be the most important person in all of his shows and this might be one of the reasons why the rift began.

“Taylor is the star of his show. He’s the most important person on all of his show,” the source told The Post.

However, the source also mentioned that everyone would want things to work out between the two so that the show could end with a bang. However, the source indicated that the end is near. The source added, “We’re hoping it will be worked out. It’s too big a show for things not to be worked out. Hopefully, Kevin will return for the remaining episodes, if everyone works together, but it looks like ‘Yellowstone’ will end after this season.”

When will the remaining episodes air?

The show went on a hiatus after airing the eighth episode of the fifth edition on January 1 and is scheduled to return in the Summer of 2023. As of now, nothing has been confirmed and viewers will only get an idea when the next set of episodes premieres on the Paramount channel.  If the production giant is really planning to move away from Costner and ‘Yellowstone’, then the show has to end in the most spectacular fashion.

Starting in 2018, ‘Yellowstone’ tells the story of a man named John Dutton (Costner) and the other members of the Dutton family trying to do anything and everything to save their ranch from intruders. Over the years, the characters have faced a lot of challenges and now that John has become the new governor, things have become more intense. The series has managed to garner positive reviews from critics as well as viewers throughout its five-season run and became one of the most-watched TV shows of all time.

Earlier this year, Costner won the Best Actor accolade for his portrayal of John Dutton in the series at the Golden Globes. Meanwhile, the entire ensemble of the Paramount series was nominated for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series accolade at the Screen Actors Guild awards.

It’s really unfortunate that a big series like ‘Yellowstone’ might be ending with a dispute like this and even if it’s ending, we hope that Paramount gives a perfect ending to all the amazing characters.
