Who is Maddi Jane? 'The Voice' Season 25 fans believe coach Chance the Rapper 'didn't want' Chicago rapper and singer
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On the second night of 'The Voice' Season 25, the coaches - John Legend, Dan + Shay, Reba McEntire, and Chance the Rapper - were introduced to a rapper-singer unlike any other artist produced by the singing competition. Maddi Jane is from Chicago, Illinois, and fans back at home are having bit trouble to get on board with the early rapping on the NBC show.
The 24-year-old performs "Escapism" and has the judges on their feet. The song begins with a rap, which surprised the coaches, but by the time she began singing, John, Chance, Reba, and new coaches Dan + Shay had all turned in fast succession.

One complained, "Love it or hate it, rap isn't singing. #TheVoice is a singing competition. Rap (unless it's just a snippet in an actual song) should automatically disqualify an audition. Vocal talent, singing talent, isn't showcased with rythmic poetry." "I didn't like it sorry. Waiting for the talent to get better," wrote another.

Who did Maddi Jane pick on 'The Voice' Season 25?
But is the competition finished before it ever begins? When Maddi discloses that she grew up in Chicago, everyone looks to Chance, another rapper-singer from the Windy City.
"Yeah, come get on Team Chance, that's all I gotta say," he said with a smirk.
Surprisingly, Maddi pushed back, saying, "I'm gonna need just a little bit more than that, though."
Chance said, "You deserve a lot more than that." He stated that he originally hesitated to turn his chair due to his astonishment at hearing her rap, but was quickly won over by her singing voice and stage presence.
"You're obviously a star, like everybody said," he remarked. "What I would bring to you as a coach is, I like to genre-blend, and also, my whole job here is just to platform young artists...and be a support system."
To no one's surprise, Maddi chose fellow Chicago rapper-singer Chance as her coach!
