‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 finale: Top 4 contestants revealed after major elimination
If there’s one thing ‘The Masked Singer’ knows how to do, it’s build anticipation and keep fans guessing. That was exactly what happened during the Season 14 semi-finals, which revealed the top 4. Cat Witch, Crane, Galaxy Girl, Pangolin, and Pugcasso all took their shot at securing a place in the finale. And yes, there was a twist already in motion. Cat Witch wasn’t exactly a mystery to viewers at home this season, because she had been doubling as ‘America’s Insider’, dropping behind-the-scenes tidbits along the way. And while the audience has been in on the secret for a while, it took until the semi-finals for Rita Ora to finally connect the dots and realize the masked performer was Kylie Cantrall, who, funnily enough, shares a screen history with her.
Ora portrayed the mother of Cantrall’s character in ‘The Descendants’ film series. When the music kicked in, Cat Witch delivered a bold take on ‘Run to You’, originally by Whitney Houston. Crane followed with ‘Break Free’ by Ariana Grande. Then came Galaxy Girl, who went all in with ‘Misery Business’ from Paramore, while Pugcasso took a different route, delivering ‘Bad Dreams’ by Teddy Swims. Despite performing a heartfelt version of ‘It Must Have Been Love’ by Roxette, Pangolin ended up receiving the lowest number of votes from the studio audience. That meant the contestant's journey ended in the semi-finals, just one step before the finale.
The unmasking revealed Rachel Platten, a multi-platinum artist whose voice many viewers probably recognized the second the mask came off. Interestingly, she didn’t get introduced on the premiere night. Her journey kicked off as a Wild Card entry, which already put her in a slightly different lane from the rest, performing ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morissette during Red, White & Clue Night. Then she took on ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ by Ozzy Osbourne on Ozzfest Night, and later performed ‘What a Feeling’ by Irene Cara on Care Bears Night.
With Pangolin now out, the final four are officially locked in, with Cat Witch, Crane, Galaxy Girl, and Pugcasso heading into the last showdown, which is set to air on April 1. And if this episode proved anything, it’s that predicting a winner right now feels like flipping a coin in the dark. Whoever wins will join a long list of past champions from T-Pain to Wayne Brady, Kandi Burruss, LeAnn Rimes, Nick Lachey, Jewel, Teyana Taylor, Amber Riley, Bishop Briggs, Ne-Yo, Vanessa Hudgens, Boyz II Men, and Gretchen Wilson.
