Kamu Kirk addresses his controversial tea party in ‘Big Brother 28’: ‘It was strategic...’
Week 6 of 'Big Brother 28' ended with the eviction of Kamu Kirk. Despite his ally Yash Patel winning the Head of Household (HOH), he found himself on the block come eviction night due to the Diamond Power of Veto. He went against Angela and Haley in the blockbuster, but unfortunately could not pull out the win. He was evicted with an 8-to-1 vote, with only Lala voting for him to stay. Kamu had a controversial stay in the 'Big Brother' house. One of the biggest talking points during his stay was his attitude towards Jason in Mallory's tea party. For those unaware, during Week 3, when Kamu was HOH, he called out Jason for lying to everyone about his targets. Jason defended himself, but could not gather much support. The 'RuPaul's Drag Race' alum got so overwhelmed by the confrontation that he started banging teapots in frustration. Ultimately, Kamu backdoored and evicted Jason from the house.
After coming out, Kamu was asked about his reasoning behind the controversial move at the tea party. "Yeah. So it was strategic, and here's why. So when I was HOH — well, before I was even HOH, Jason threw my name out. He threw my name out first at the nomination ceremony with Devens in week two, and for the first like week and a half, really up until that point, Jason and I had a really good relationship. He and I got along really well. I even thought about forming an alliance with him at one point in time, and we just had a great relationship, a great friendship," he shared with Sharon Tharp of Men's Journal. He shared that during his HOH, several people reached out to him saying that Jason was targeting him. This made him pivot and decide to target him. However, he knew that with a blockbuster in play, it might not be easy.
Kamu shared that he wanted to air everything out at the tea party. He had intel that Jason was sharing different targets with different groups. The UFC fighter decided to use that against him so people would mistrust him. This would ensure that even if Jason survived, he wouldn't have allies and would be the only one targeting Kamu. "So with the whole tea party thing, it was like, let's get everything out in the open. He's been spreading lies to so many different people, trying to pin so many different people against each other. I want to ask him questions and let the whole house hear what he has to say, and then they can determine whether or not he's lying or being truthful, and if they want to work with him moving forward," he explained.
In the same interview, Kamu also addressed some statements he made in the show that were considered anti-drag. "Bro, miss me with the drag stuff. Miss me. I'm still an MMA guy, and I have an image to uphold," he was caught saying to another contestant on live feeds. Kamu stated that he had no issue with people choosing to dress in drag, but also wanted the same liberty for himself. "And however Jason wants to dress, that's totally cool. Like he could do whatever he wants, but I just ask for the same respect," he shared. "Like, let me dress however I want without trying to put pressure on me to dress a certain way. And I'm not sure exactly what was shown, but I totally respect Jason and what he wants to do, and I just ask that people respect me and how I want to dress and what I want to do as well. But on a human level, I love Jason. Like I said, I hope that he and I can be friends." 'Big Brother 28' continues to air every Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday only on CBS.
