NBC to air ‘Law & Order: SVU’ marathon ahead of Mariska Hargitay’s Emmy hosting gig
As a tribute to Mariska Hargitay’s 2026 Emmy hosting gig, NBC has announced a special marathon featuring some of her best episodes, as per Variety. Hargitay stars as Captain Olivia Benson on ‘Law & Order: SVU’, and she has been part of the show since its premiere in 1999. That makes her the longest-running original character of the police procedural drama. Earlier, on July 7, it was revealed publicly that she will be hosting the 78th Emmy Awards, set to take place live on Monday, September 14. But before that, NBC has decided to re-air some of her notable episodes. On September 10, three instalments starring her will air back-to-back.
First, at 8 p.m., the Emmy-nominated episode titled ‘Charisma’ will be re-released, originally premiered on November 16, 2004. It will be followed by ‘911’ at 9 p.m. and ‘Undercover’ at 10 p.m. ‘911’ first aired on October 4, 2005, and won an Emmy, while ‘Undercover’ first hit screens on April 15, 2008, and was an Emmy nominee. Apart from the episodes, Hargitay herself has been nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Benson a total of eight times, winning only once in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actress. She even took home a Golden Globe after being nominated twice.
Now, she not only stars on the show but also executive produces and directs the series. Meanwhile, Season 28 of ‘Law & Order: SVU’ will debut on October 8 at 9/8c on NBC, with next-day availability on Peacock. Following the premiere, new episodes will arrive weekly on Thursday nights. According to NBC, the official logline of the series reads, “This hard-hitting and emotional series chronicles the lives of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department, an elite squad of detectives who investigate crimes of s*xual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.”
Season 28’s full cast has not been officially confirmed yet, except for Hargitay, who was recently reported to be filming on the streets of Manhattan with a bob cut and an all-black outfit. Peter Scanavino and Kevin Kane’s returns as A.D.A. Sonny Carisi and Detective Terry Bruno, respectively, were confirmed through a social media post. Kane shared a selfie with Scanavino and Hargitay, writing, “Back on the streets…” Other returning members who can be expected to appear in the upcoming season are: Ice-T as Sgt. Fin Tutuola, Kelli Giddish as Sgt. Amanda Rollins, Aimé Donna Kelly as Captain Renee Curry, and Corey Cott as Detective Jake Griffin.
