‘Incredibles 3’ sets release date as Pixar teases new heroes and its most powerful villain
Pixar has revealed the first concept art and plot details for ‘Incredibles 3,’ with Violet and Dash set to take on larger roles in the Parr family’s next mission. The update came during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23. Pete Docter also teased a superhero league and a threat that could overpower the Parr family and the other Supers. ‘Incredibles 3’ will release in theaters on June 16, 2028. The story takes place after Supers regained legal status at the end of ‘Incredibles 2,’ with Winston Deavor launching a sponsored superhero league. “It’s a heavily sponsored organization built on a massive platform of branding, marketing, and merchandising—something we don’t really know anything about at Disney,” Docter joked at D23.
Violet and Dash want to establish themselves as Supers, but Bob and Helen are not ready to give them that freedom. The siblings begin leaving home at night to protect the city without their parents’ permission, while the family continues to manage Jack-Jack’s powers. “They want to prove that they are ready to be a real Supers, and their parents aren’t quite so convinced,” Docter said. “So they’ve been sneaking out at night to protect the city, and it doesn’t go over so well at home.” Bob will face questions about his place in a world that may no longer need him as it once did. Docter said the family will confront “a super villain with more power than all the family put together and all of the supers,” but an interruption from Edna Mode stopped him from sharing more.
Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the first two films, wrote the screenplay, while ‘Elemental’ director Peter Sohn takes over behind the camera. Bird confirmed the sequel will not include a time jump, meaning Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack will remain the same ages. Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner and Samuel L. Jackson are returning as Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash and Frozone, respectively. The third film follows ‘Incredibles 2,’ which earned over $1.2 billion worldwide after its 2018 release.
