Netflix has released first-look pictures of its highly anticipated crime thriller 'The Whisper Man.' The movie will star acclaimed actors Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, and Adam Scott in leading roles, as per TUDUM. The story is centered around a serial killer named 'The Whisper Man' who was supposedly arrested years ago. However, all of a sudden, children have started going missing in the same way they did under the wrath of 'The Whisper Man,' which makes the central characters speculate whether the infamous killer is still at large. It is based on a New York Times best-selling novel with the same name by Alex North. The venture has been directed by James Ashcroft, on a script penned by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer.

The movie's premise kicks off when Tom Kennedy (Adam Scott), a widowed crime writer, finds out that his son, Jake Kennedy (Acston Luca Porto), has been abducted. To find out his whereabouts, Tom decides to take help from his estranged father, Pete Willis (Robert De Niro). The investigation reveals a connection with an already convicted serial killer, 'The Whisper Man.' Amanda Beck (Monaghan) serves as the lead detective in the case of Jake's disappearance. One of the first-look photos features a distraught Tom helplessly looking at a map, seemingly trying to figure out the mystery of his son's disappearance. Another one has in focus the three main characters supposedly in the midst of an investigation. Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), Owen Teague (It, You Hurt My Feelings), Porto (The upcoming Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado film), and Will Brill (The Eyes of My Mother, Not Fade Away) also feature in the movie.

Russo Brothers, known for their work in the MCU, produce the movie through their company AGBO. Previously, AGBO has collaborated with the streaming giant on 'The Gray Man' (2022) and the 'Extraction' franchise (2020-2023). "AGBO is excited to be embarking on our sixth film with our incredible partners at Netflix," AGBO chief creative officer Angela Russo-Otstot said. "The Whisper Man is a gripping thriller, but at its core, it is a poignant and complex story of father and sons. We are grateful to have one of the finest actors of his generation, Robert De Niro, anchoring that story and with the remarkable James Ashcroft directing."

De Niro is undoubtedly the biggest name on the cast list with his two Oscar wins. A big-screen darling with celebrated projects like 'New York, New York' (1977), 'The King of Comedy' (1983), 'Goodfellas' (1990), and 'Casino' (1995) has established a steady relationship with Netflix in the last few years. 'The Whisper Man' will be his third exclusive venture with the streaming giant after 'Zero Day' (2025) and 'The Irishman' (2019). The movie is set to be released on August 28, 2026, on the streaming site, which suggests that more information will soon follow.
