LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The oscar-nominated Matt Reeves directorial 'The Batman' is getting another chapter added to its universe, expanding Reeves' vision in DCU. An HBO Max spin-off series 'The Penguin' is set to release sometime this year. It was previously confirmed by James Gunn that 'The Batman' takes place in a separate universe from the upcoming newer chapter he is planning for DCU. Now, it is heavily speculated that Robert Pattinson will reprise his role of Batman on the upcoming HBO Max series, 'The Penguin'.

'The Penguin' is said to take place after the flooding of Gotham city. The series will explore the rise of Oswald Cobblepot through the criminal hierarchy of Gotham to become the unstoppable Penguin. Apart from Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot/ The Penguin, the upcoming series stars Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone. The cast also includes Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly, Deirdre O'Connell, and Rhenzy Feliz in unnamed roles.

Will Pattinson be back as Batman?

Robert Pattinson would put on his cowl as Batman for the spin-off series, according to Comicbook. 'The Penguin' is an eight-episode series that takes place in the Elseworlds and is also connected to the storyline of 'The Batman - Part II'. The last time, we saw Pattinson's reclusive billionaire put an end to Gotham's newest and deadliest killer The Riddler. Though he manages to arrest The Riddler, the latter's sinister plans made Gotham's seawall crumble, resulting in the entire city flooding. With Catwoman leaving town, Batman steps up to recover the city and tries to instill hope in the people in the process. Pattinson's appearance in 'The Penguin' is yet to be officially confirmed. It is also unknown if he would appear as Batman, the protector of Gotham or as a significant detective of Gotham, or as both.

Colin Farrell as Penguin

On the other hand, Colin Farrell has shocked and surprised the audience with his portrayal of the villain Oswald Cobblepot AKA The Penguin. With Gotham at its most vulnerable, 'The Penguin' is expected to show both the aftermath of the disastrous flood and the rise of Oswald Cobblepot from a nobody to Gotham's criminal kingpin. Farrell's deadly acting chops, combined with the appearance of Batman, can be expected to provide a visual treat for the fans.

'The Batman' (2022) is available for streaming on HBO Max.
