One of the most fascinating characters in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ was The Penguin. Fans loved Colin Farrell’s version of the iconic comic-book villain and wanted to know more about him. It seems Warner Bros. has heard their prayers because the Italian bird-man is returning for more on the small screen. The production giant and HBO Max have announced that a limited series based on the character will be making its way to HBO’s streaming platform.

Titled ‘The Penguin’, the story revolves around the character played by Farrell in the movie and will expand “upon the world filmmaker Matt Reeves has created for Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster ‘The Batman’.” The ‘Lobster’ star will be reprising the role of the classic Batman villain whose real name is Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot.

‘The Penguin’ is a working title for the upcoming series and is subject to change. The series will be executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan, and Lauren LeFranc, who will serve as showrunner.

Farrell shared his excitement by saying that he is “humbled to continue telling stories in the grimy world of Gotham City”, adding, “I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. It will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”

Fans got really excited with the news of this new spin-off series and applauded the production companies by saying “bring it on.” One of the fans wrote, “After #TheBatman I’m so excited for The Penguin HBO Max series which is gonna be another mature series for DC alongside #Peacemaker which is perfect.” Another fan said, “Everyone after seeing #TheBatman wanted an HBO Max series on The Penguin!”

“DC keeps winning these days. so glad to be a DC fan,” wrote another social media user. “That character is the biggest highlight for me in the movie. This is a good choice,” said another one.

Meanwhile, another user wrote, “Can’t wait and still can’t believe that Colin Farrell’s pretty face is under that makeup !! Great job to those that did the makeup on him!” Another user shared, “YES! Really excited to get a new Penguin backstory with Farrell. He knocked it out of the park in the film with only a few scenes. Hopefully, we'll see how he and Riddler mesh together in this version.”

“Will be my first DC show! Thanks for the fantastic movie!” said another one.

The newest movie in the ‘Batman’ franchise opened to universal acclaim and has already earned more than $300 million at the global box office. The movie stars Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Gordon.
