KYOTO, JAPAN: 'Sunny' on Apple TV+ is a quirky black comedy series featuring Rashida Jones as Suzie Sakamoto, a woman entangled in a mystery after the disappearance and presumed death of her husband and son in a plane crash.

In the show, Suzie is the perfect victim, having been deceived by her husband, Masa Sakamoto (Hidetoshi Nishijima), throughout their ten-year marriage. After the tragedy, Suzie not only grapples with her grief but also faces the challenge of dealing with Hime (YOU), a Yakuza member who has been spying on her. In Episode 6 of 'Sunny,' Hime pressures Suzie into divulging confidential information about Masa. However, the final moments of 'Sunny' Episode 7 hint that she might not be Yakuza's only target.

A character from 'Sunny' Episode 1 mysteriously reappears in Episode 7

In 'Sunny' Episode 7, Suzie discovers that she, along with two other people, is being tracked. One of the tracked individuals is her mother-in-law, Noriko Sakamoto (Judy Ongg), who is currently in jail. Another tracker leads Suzie to an apartment. After knocking on every door, hoping to find Masa and Zen (Fares Belkheir), Suzie almost gives up until Mixxy (Annie the Clumsy) decides to check out the basement where they find Yuki Tanaka (Jun Kunimura).

If you recall, Yuki is the same man who appeared in 'Sunny' Episode 1 and gave Sunny to Suzie, introducing himself as Masa's colleague at Imatech. But why is he hiding in the basement?

What could Yuki Tanaka's return mean for Suzie Sakamoto in Apple TV+ 'Sunny'?

Yuki had been absent from the narrative until his mysterious reappearance in Episode 7. It turns out there's a tracker on him, indicating that Hime is keeping a close watch on him as well. With this recent turn of events, we can assume that Hime's attempt at recovering the dark manual from Masa's laptop was an epic failure. This could explain why Hime continues to track Suzie and why Yuki has become one of her targets.

Although the showrunners haven't revealed any backstory for Yuki yet, viewers are left to speculate about his role in the narrative. Our best guess is that he is aware of what was transcribed at Imatech, including the details of the mysterious killing and the reason behind locking Sunny's memory.

He could even help Suzie restore Sunny's default settings, especially since the robot has been acting weird after returning from Hime's captivity. Yet, it remains unclear why Hime hasn't abducted Yuki to obtain the information she seeks. If this hasn’t occurred, there may be even more complex layers to the already intricate mystery.

Hopefully, we won't have to wait for long for Yuki's mystery to unravel. The mystery has been dragged on for far too long and we anticipate 'Sunny' Episode 8 to open with Suzie and Yuki's conversation which could give us some insight into the suspense.

'Sunny' Episodes 1 to 7 are now streaming on Apple TV+.
