'The Bachelor' 2023: Fans slam 'hostile' Zach Shallcross over 'unnecessarily rude' response to Greer Blitzer

LONDON, ENGLAND: February 20th's episode of 'The Bachelor' was a total emotional rollercoaster for Greer Blitzer. After spending nearly her entire London trip longing for a one-on-one date with Zach Shallcross, she hits a roadblock when she finally gets some real time alone with the lead (over Zoom).

Gabi Elnicki leaves a throng of disappointed ladies behind her as she sets out for her first one-on-one date in London. "I'm feeling defeated," Greer admits. Where is her one-on-one date now that she has the First Impression Rose? "I keep justifying in my head why it keeps getting pushed back and pushed back," she says, "and like, I'm running out of excuses now." Greer sighs when Gabi walks back into the hotel suite with all of her expensive gifts from her date with Zach. "That one cut deep, because I told Zach how much I love tea," she says. Greer's night is made much worse when Gabi's periwinkle gossamer gown is delivered to her room for the dinner portion of her date. "I'm trying to hold it in," she says quietly to Charity Lawson. "It's really hard." As it turns out, it was far too difficult. Greer eventually gets up and walks out, so she can cry alone. Charity pursues her in the hopes of providing some solace. "Greer is having a moment," she observes. "She is reacting pretty heavily to not getting the one-on-one date."

Why was Zach upset with Greer?

Greer was the last person to arrive for her one-on-one cocktail ceremony via Zoom, and the poor lady was striving so hard to make a good impression and connection with Zach that she sticks her foot in it. "I just feel for you," she adds. "I work in sales, and so last time I had Covid was at the end of the quarter, the end of the year. And so, I kind of, like, know what it's like to have a goal that you're trying to reach, and you're stuck." This parallel did not sit well with Zach, as seen by his expression.

"I think it's completely different, at least in my perspective, me being frustrated in finding my future wife, versus… the close of the quarter," he adds. "In a few short weeks, I could be standing in front of my person, and that means a lot more to me than the end of a sales quarter." Greer splutters something about how she was simply trying to connect with him, but the harm has already been done. "I think I really upset him," she laments later in a confessional. "What I said really rubbed him the wrong way and it was obvious… I have this feeling that I'm going home tonight."

'RED FLAG!'

Fans felt bad for Greer as they quip, "Greer trying Zach: to be empathetic:" Another one added, "Lmfaoooo Zach telling Greer finding his wife is more important that teaching your quarterly sales goal." Greer got the upper hand among fans as they feel, "Zach really said his 2 month ~journey to find love~ is more important than Greer’s CAREER." Further bashing him for making her feel bad, a fan wrote, "Ok but like Greer might also care a lot about her job and I don’t think she meant it to “dilute” the situation AT ALL. If anything it was probably more stressful with her and corporate America than Zach being in freaking London with a whole TV crew to wait on him??"

Accusing Zach of blowing the scene out of context, a fan wrote, "First time all season I'm on Greer's side - she was just trying to relate and Zach blew it out of context." Another added, "Zach's response to Greer was so unnecessarily rude and off-putting. RED FLAG!" Support started pouring in following the episode, as fans write, "How could Zach take what Greer said the wrong way? She was trying to tell him she’s been there and feels bad for him!! #thebachelor You did NOTHING WRONG Greer!!" Calling out his unncessary hostility, a fan tweeted, "Idk I feel like Zach was being a lil unnecessarily..hostile? I felt bad for Greer tbh."
