'Queen of Hearts': 'Between 1&2' b-side steals the show, TWICE fans say ‘legendary comeback'

TWICE makes their first comeback after contract renewal with the 'Talk That Talk' era

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: TWICE’s mini-album ‘Between 1&2’ with its title track ‘Talk That Talk is here! And while fans loved it, b-side ‘Queen of Hearts’ caught everyone’s eye from the vocals to the powerful lyrics. TWICE released their 11th mini-album on August 26 with a kitschy concept as we got a mesh of Y2K fashion and the girls channeling their inner special agents.

2022 has been a good year for TWICE as the girl group branched out as soloists, successfully renewed their contracts, raised their label JYPE’s net worth to 1 trillion won (~$815 million) in the first three months of 2022, and earned $38 million in the first half of 2022 with only concerts. ‘Between 1&2’ is also their best-selling comeback yet as TWICE reached their first 1 million mark with the album crossing a million pre-orders.

TWICE release ‘Between 1&2’

With ‘Between 1&2’ being the girls’ first album since their contract renewal, they shared that they wanted it to be all about TWICE and show a new side of them. The members have also participated in the making of the album with Chaeyoung writing the lyrics for ‘Basics’, Dahyun writing ‘Gone’ and ‘When We Were Kids’ and Jihyo writing and co-composing ‘Trouble’. But ‘Queen of Hearts’ is stealing the show as the English-language song makes fans nostalgic with its quintessential melody of the 2010s. The pop rock song is all about their love for fans which had ONCEs (TWICE’s fans) moved.

‘Queen of Hearts’ supremacy

ONCEs made tweets like, “Queen of hearts is giving me camp rock demi lovato vibes and it’s kinda eating #BETWEEN1and2.” Another fan posted, “The way chaeyoung started the song??? AND THEN HER RAP IN THE MIDDLE??? JEONGYEON POWERFUL CHORUS??? JIHYO FREAKING HIGH NOTES??? this song has a strong WHO RUN THE WORLD? GIRLS vibe but a lager scale... UNIVERSE.”

One joked, “Jeongyeon singing in queen of hearts WHO WAS SHE FIGHTING.” Another commented, “Queen of hearts is from the climax of a 2004 coming of age movie and here’s how we get it on the next nostalgic cute blockbuster hit of 2023-.” One fan said, “THE VOCALS IN QUEEN OF HEARTS IS FKING INSANE WHAT THE FCKKKKKKKKK.” Another ONCE added, “I believe in "queen of hearts" supremacy.”

'Song of the year'

One wrote, “I can always depend on @JYPETWICE for fun, upbeat title track especially with "Talk That Talk" but "Queen of Hearts" is a B-side queen.” A ONCE shared, “QUEEN OF HEARTS - is giving me old 2000 pop songs vibes but Taylor Swift I knew were trouble vibes at the start of the chorus  ~ BUT OMG GOD JIHYO YOUR VOCALS I HAVE BEEN BLESSED ~ waaaaaah.” Another multi-fan added, “Queen of hearts came straight out of taylor swift's red.” 

Fans also love the title track ‘Talk That Talk’ as a ONCE said, “And that’s how you make a legendary comeback… TALK THAT TALK SONG OF THE YEAR I FEAR.” Another fan added, “I know im gonna get cancelled for saying this but TALK THAT TALK sounds like its copied from somewhere.. idk just the beat the concept everything it all sounds so familiar i just cant pinpoint exactly where ive heard it.. WAIT i figured it out it sounds like the SONG OF THE YEAR!” One shared, “IF THIS DOESNT SCREAM SONG OF THE YEAR IDK WHAT DOES ANYMORE.”
