Pentagon's Hongseok lands role in web series 'Aquaman' after Kakao TV's 'Shadow Beauty'
Pentagon member, Hongseok who has successfully launched his solo acting career seems to be doing quite well in his acting career too. Even before the broadcast of his current web series has ended, Hongseok seems to have landed a new acting gig, that according to his agency, he is positively considering playing.
After making his acting debut with the 2017 movie, ‘The Love That’s Left’, Hongseok showed fans his talent in acting as he started to make a name for himself in the industry. Following the release of the film, he landed various acting roles like the 2019 MBN drama, ‘Best Chicken’ where he played the character of Bae Ki-bum after which he appeared in not one but two 2021 K-dramas. And that's not all. Hongseok began 2021 with his appearance as Shin Ah-jun in the SBS drama, ‘Phoenix 2020’ as well as his first Netflix series, ‘Move to Heaven’ that was released in 2021 itself.

Hongseok lands a new K-drama
Over the last three years, Hongseok has been part of several web series. As of December 10, it was announced that Pentagon’s Hongseok has been considered for his sixth web drama appearance — the webtoon-based drama, ‘Aquaman.’ It was announced that the drama is set to release in 2022 and Hongseok has been asked to play the role of Ji Seong-joon.
The drama is based on a webtoon of the same name and the story of ‘Aquaman,’ which follows the journey of growth of two main character — Ji Seong-joon and Shin Na-ru — who have been friends for 9 years. The original Kakao webtoon, ‘Aquaman’ had accumulated a total of 180 million views and now, with its web series production, a much wilder reaction is expected from fans. The webtoon depicts the love and friendship of youth that transcends gender.
Pentagon member Hongseok will play the role of Ji Seong-joon, and actor Jung Woo-jin will play the role of Shin Na-ru. Actors So-hee Lee and So-hyun Shin appear as the characters Choi So-ra and Shin So-mi, respectively. Fans are most excited to see Hongseok transform into the character of Seong-joon for the upcoming series.
Hongseok’s web drama appearances
Over the last few years, Hongseok has already appeared in various web series. In the year 2019 alone, he appeared in two web dramas both from Naver. His first web drama was titled, ‘On The Campus,’ where he played the role of Hee-yeol, and his second was ‘Anniversary Anyway,’ where he played the character, Hong Woo-jae. He appeared in the 2020 Naver web series, ‘Twenty-Twenty,’ in a cameo appearance.
In 2021, Hongseok first appeared in the Naver TV web series, ‘Blue Birthday’ opposite Red Velvet’s Yeri as he played the role of Ji Seo-jun, the lover of Oh Ha-rin (played by Yeri). Hongseok is currently a part of another Kakao TV web series titled, ‘Shadow Beauty’ that is currently airing on Kakao TV in South Korea with a simultaneous international broadcast on Viki.
Meanwhile, the next web series starring Pentagon’s Hongseok titled, ‘Aquaman’, which is in full swing, is expected to be released in the first half of next year at the earliest but a specific release date has not yet been determined.
