The K-pop group Astro is not only killing it in the music industry with their comebacks but also making it big in acting projects, with back-to-back releases. Fans know that Astro’s label Fantagio Entertainment has been working with Astro members to push their acting careers too. Almost all the members are now actor-idols with member Eunwoo as the most successful in the group as one of the biggest fourth-gen idol-actors in the industry.

Not only Eunwoo but Astro members like Rocky, Sanha, Moonbin, among the remaining five, also have had their share of successful acting gigs. Infact, Rocky and Sanha hasd some big releases in the last year alone. In the year 2021, Rocky was part of not one but two K-dramas that both released as web series. Within only two months since his last acting gig, Rocky has signed his third drama titled, ‘Salty Idol’ that will release in 2022.

Unstoppable Rocky

With his back-to-back acting gigs, fans have dubbed Rocky "unstoppable" as his acting career takes a turn for the best. On December 10, Rocky’s agency Fantagio announced that the Astro member had been cast in the web drama, ‘Salty Idol.’ It will be his first K-drama in the year 2022. Rocky’s agency also said that the singer/rapper had been working hard to meet fan expectations and present himself well in this latest project. This is why he has asked fans to look forward to his performance.

The K-drama ‘Salty Idol’ will be directed by Kim Hyeon-soo and its screenplay is written by Kim Seong-jin. KBS media will be producing the web series. ‘Salty Idol’ appears to be a 'coming of age' drama depicting the 'salty' daily life of an idol, who suffers from hardships despite his rise to stardom. Revealing the dark reality of being an idol, Rocky will play the lead role of Hwiyeon, who is a singer in the fictional K-pop group, Xpears.



 

Astro Rocky’s acting journey

Over the last few years, Rocky has been doing quite well in his acting career as he started his solo acting career with ‘Soul Plate’ that released as a web series in 2019 where he played the character of Angel Rumiel. In the year 2021 alone, Rocky appeared in not one but two web series with the YouTube series, ‘Find Me If You Can’ where he played the character of Choi Jeong-sang as well as his last much-loved K-drama appearance in the Naver TV web series, ‘Hyangjeon of Youth’ where he played the character of Lee Mong-ryong.

After making his debut as a member of Astro in 2016, Rocky drew attention with his versatile rapping, dancing, and vocal skills. The year 2021 also saw Rocky appear as a contestant on the MBC variety show, ‘King of Mask Singer’ on two of its episodes. Meanwhile, the web drama ‘Salty Idol’ starring Rocky is scheduled to air in this winter.
