Looks like Pentagon’s Hongseok is starting to make a name for himself as an idol actor. He was previously in indie K-drama ‘Blue Birthday’, starring as the main lead alongside Red Velvet’s Yeri. He also had short roles in two other dramas this year - ‘Move to Heaven’ and ‘Nickname Pine Leaf’. And now it looks like he has been cast in another K-drama. ‘False Beauty’ is a drama by KakaoTV and which has also roped in another idol actor, Golden Child’s Bomin.

Bomin landed his first main role with ‘A-Teen 2’ in 2019. He has since acted in several K-dramas. He was last seen in the popular 2020 K-drama ‘18 Again’, which is a remake of the Zac Efron film ‘17 Again’. Bomin was busy with Golden Child’s activities as they had three comebacks this year. At the beginning of 2021, they released the EP ‘Yes’, followed by their second studio album ‘Game Changer’ in August. After doing well on charts like Billboard, they came back with a repackaged album ‘Ddara’ in October.

Hongseok and Bomin in ‘False Beauty’

Well, with Golden Child’s promotions ending, Bomin has a chance to once again get into acting. Also titled ‘Shadow Beauty’, ‘False Beauty’ has cast Bomin and actress Shim Dal-gi in the main roles. The movie actress has had bit parts in dramas like ‘The School Nurse Files’ and ‘Hospital Playlist’. This will be her first major role in a K-drama. It looks like she will be in the middle of a love triangle, with Pentagon’s Hongseok cast as a cold idol trainee who only cares for Dal-gi’s character Goo Ae-jin.

The plot of the drama

Hongseok’s character is Lee Jin-sung who is training to become a K-pop idol. With a brusque exterior, he is always by Ae-jin’s side and comforts her when she is mocked for her appearance. They find solace in each other at a school that does not accept them. However, Ae-jin can also relate with Bomin’s character Kim Ho-in, who is the class president with a secret. Ae-jin herself has a double life as the school outcast is popular online. She has an influencer persona called Genie who is famous online with more than 770k followers.

Ae-jin and Ho-in end up creating a tense alliance that seems like fate. The drama is adapted from a webtoon with the same name created by Ah Heum. The filming will begin soon as it is set to be broadcast on KakaoTV at the end of 2021. There will be a total of 13 episodes with each being 20 minutes.
