Warning: Spoilers for 'The Nurse' Episode 2

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pernille Kurzmann Larsen (Fanny Louise Bernth) begins as a new nurse at Nykbing Falster Hospital in Denmark. Here, she meets Christina Aistrup Hansen (Jennifer Park). The latter is a normal emergency department nursing superstar. However, the person who seems like a superstar to everyone else seems untrustworthy to Pernille and her suspicions only grow as the mini-series progresses.

'The Nurse' is based on Kristian Corfixen's novel of the same name. Kasper Barfoed, who wrote the first four episodes, has directed the entire miniseries. Kasper Barfoed and Dorthe Warne Hgh, who was also a co-creator of 'The Chestnut Man', are the series' primary authors. Additionally, Thomas Porsager, Marie Sterbye and Jacob Katz Hansen have contributed to the adaptation.

Netflix 'The Nurse' Season 1 Episode 1: Two sides of the war zone called hospital

Pernille's instincts only grow stronger

In Episode 2 of the mini-series, Pernille becomes suspicious of the department's hero Christina. Since everyone seems to like her and Christina does seem passionate about saving her patients, how are the unexpected deaths taking place in the hospital?

The episode sees Pernille taking her daughter to her first horse riding lessons and she her that whenever something scares her in life, she ought to do it and the fear will automatically go away. That sets the tone of the episode. Dealing with her fear of what lies behind Christina's facade, Pernille decides to deal with it by keeping her eyes open.

Soon after, she starts questioning things when three unexpected deaths take place on the night when Christina is on night duty. The patient who was admitted due to UTI suddenly dies due to cardiac arrest. Is it possible that the reason the patient's death has something to do with Christina? Pernille's instincts say it does and it looks like they might might be right.

Jessica Park and Fanny Louise Bernth carry the series

Park plays Christina flawlessly, which is not unexpected. You can see why this nurse was so well-liked since she exudes such energy and charisma. We also catch a peek of something else that may be lurking beneath the surface at the same moment. Though what is "lurking" may be some sort of mental illness. It is, however, not really highlighted  in the 'The Nurse'. This is brought up since Christina Aistrup Hansen's desire to be at the centre of momentous occasions is precisely what plays a crucial part.

Bernth plays Pernille with intelligence and delicacy. Nothing is really black and white, but it's obvious that Pernille finds the situation difficult. Particularly how nobody is shocked by a string of peculiar fatalities. Patients who arrive with a variety of minor issues suddenly experience a fatal cardiac arrest. The true reason she decides to take things into her own hands was because no one was asking or looking into the deaths and that's precisely what makes the series so tense.
