What is ‘The Nurse’ on Netflix really about?
‘The Nurse’ is based on a true story about Christina Aistrup Hansen, a nurse, and her killing deeds which took the lives of three patients at the Nykøbing Falster Hospital in Denmark. A fellow nurse named Pernille Kurzmann who just joined the hospital befriends Hansen and, just like others, is equally smitten by Hansen’s adoring ways of taking care of patients at the hospital.
Unfortunately, Pernille’s naivety hinders her vision to see Hansen’s truth. Soon Pernille realizes that Hansen is not all that she seems. She’s cunning, and twisted, yet articulate with her job. Only her job is to destroy the lives of her patients. When Pernille learns about Hansen’s evil deeds, she sets out on a journey to expose Hansen and turns her into the hands of the authorities.
In the series, Josephine Park plays Hansen while Fanny Louise Bernth takes up the role of Pernille, who befriends Hansen. If not for Pernille, Hansen would have continued killing the patients at the hospital. But who is this cunning woman who killed so mercilessly? Let’s find out.
Who is Christina Aistrup Hansen?
Christina Aistrup Hansen was a nurse who worked at the Nykobing Falster Hospital in the southern Danish city of Nykobing Falster. Her background is fairly unknown, which adds to the mystery, but given her brief tenure at Nykøbing Falster Hospital, everyone liked her and vouched for her. Hansen knew this and played it to her advantage to carry out her heinous deeds.
However, the tables turned when Pernille’s suspicion led to the arrest of Hansen for manslaughter. The Danish court held Hansen responsible for the murders of four patients and sentenced her to life. But later, a lack of corroborating evidence brought the sentence down to 12 years in prison back in 2017.
During her trial, Hansen proved that she suffered from a histrionic personality disorder which is an extensive attention-seeking disorder. She cited a mental disorder to get out of a life sentence and save her life. There is also no proof of her marriage and her family is relatively unknown to anyone.
Where is Christina Aistrup Hansen now?
After her trial, Hansen is now serving her 12-year sentence in a Denmark jail. She was held for four attempted manslaughter charges and was also found guilty of dosing her seven-year-old daughter with high volumes of sleeping pills.
Why did Hansen do all those horrible things? There’s only one way to find the true reason behind a killer’s motive. Dive into the show on Netflix and clear all your doubts. 'The Nurse' streams from Thursday, April 27 on Netflix.
