JYPE copy Itzy hand sign for NMIXX, fans say 'give them one thing that’s not stolen'

Itzy fans share that Ryujin created the hand sign and so they do not appreciate JYPE giving a similar one to NMIXX

K-pop Twitter is getting tired of NMIXX's plagiarism scandals. Before the girl group’s debut, JYPE was under fire for allegedly stealing from Loona, Monsta X, and Enhypen. After their debut, it was Ateez and aespa’s turn to point out uncanny similarities in NMIXX’s debut song and music video ‘O.O’. The last update the internet got was just a few days ago when Atinys (Ateez’s fandom) claimed that JYPE was stealing from Ateez on purpose as they gave NMIXX the logo of a compass, just like Ateez’s. NMIXX’s fandom was also given the name NSWER with an explanation which Atinys shared was similar to Ateez’s song ‘Answer’.

Well, it looks like even NMIXX’s own labelmates are fair game. NMIXX have often praised their seniors, Itzy, and talked in awe of them. Unfortunately, Midzys (Itzy’s fandom) feel that JYPE has gone as far as to give away Itzy’s hand gesture to NMIXX. As a signature move or introductory move, every K-pop act has a hand sign. Itzy’s hand sign, created by Ryujin, is made by interlocking the first two fingers of both hands horizontally to create a ‘Z’.

NMIXX and Itzy hand signs

Midzys had first noticed in NMIXX’s music video ‘O.O’ that they had created a hand sign in the same way but vertically to create an ‘N’. They had hoped that it was a one-time thing and had let it go. However, during NMIXX’s showcase that was held on March 1, the girl group posed with that same ‘N’ gesture and shared that it had become the group’s hand sign. And well, Itzy fans are frustrated.

‘The disrespect to both Itzy and NMIXX’

With Itzy’s Ryujin making the hand sign for her group, one Midzy tweeted, “Nmixx fans need to understand the fact that midzys DO NOT hate the group. WE hate jyp. nmixx deserves better as we can’t deny that some will throw hate to them rather than jyp cause of the handsign. itzy on the other hand OWNS that handsign. Ryujin made it. Not jyp.” Another Itzy fan pointed out, “Might get shit for this but squ4d knew N-Z look v similar. they could've just based nmixx's hand sign on something else like idk their greeting?? i mean, Twice didn't make theirs a T, aespa's isn't an A.” 

One Midzy posted, “This is not a blame for the NMIXX girls but the company. The ≷ Hand Sign is not "just" a sign. It has been ITZY's TRADEMARK and IDENTITY ever since their debut. Please give ITZY their deserved respect. SQU4D CHANGE THE HANDSIGN #JYPESQU4D_RESPECT_ITZY.” Another fan commented, “NMIXX’s hand sign being the same as Itzy’s is beyond unacceptable, theyre under the SAME company and JYP literally just gives them a discount version of Itzy’s signature, which RYUJIN created in the first place?? @jypnation seriously f**k you.” 

One Midzy added, “JYPE, PLEASE AT LEAST HAVE THE DECENCY TO SHOW SOME RESPECT TO SHIN RYUJIN AS THE CREATOR OF ITZY’S HAND SIGN. THE DISRESPECT TO BOTH ITZY AND NMIXX SPEAKS VOLUME.” Another said, “Don't direct ur complaints at nmixx, but at jype. ryujin created the hand sign and it's the only thing we have other than the crown that is uniquely itzy's trademark. jype doesn't give them any creative freedom and now they've rehashed 1 of the only things itzy has for themselves.” 

One fan explained why they were angry, “N rotated 90 degrees is a z wow’ ‘its just a handsign’ don't be dense. there are other ways to make an n sign and it was ryujin herself that created itzy's one. its a part of itzy's identity and if jype did the same to any of ur favs u would do the same.” Another shared, “Does jyp gave them at least one thing that is not stolen.”
