NMIXX's fandom name 'NSWER' has Ateez fans chattering amid plagiarism controversy

Atinys believe that the JYPE group should take accountability for the plagiarism claims, while fans of NMIXX believe Ateez fans are on a witch hunt

The last few days have been extremely chaotic in the Ateez fandom as fans were busy defending the honor of the group. It all began with NMIXX, the rookie girl group that made their debut with the single ‘O.O’, who made Atinys wonder if the JYP Entertainment girl group was plagiarizing Ateez content. Atinys posted clips after clips proving how Ateez had been ripped off when NMIXX copied multiple scenes out of Ateez’s videography.

As that was a battle fans of the eight makes one team group were fighting as they trended the hashtags #STOPCOPYINGATEEZ and #ATEEZDESERVESBETTER, fans were also wishing that the label would apologize for plagiarizing original content from Ateez like Cube Entertainment and (G)I-dle’s Soyeon did when they realized their single ‘SUN’ was copied from the song ‘Wave’ by Ateez.

Before fans’ original pleas were heard, NMIXX announced their fandom name and revealed its description which is not something Atinys are happy about.

NMIXX fans defend the girl group

As soon as the girl group announced their fandom name, K-pop Twitter began talking about how Ateez had released a song called ‘Answer’ in 2020. Not only that, NMIXX used the image of a compass that is similar to Ateez’s original concept. Some fans of the rookie girl group argued that fans of the fourth-gen boy group are trying to gatekeep the word “Answer” as well as a compass as they engage in a witch-hunt, attacking NMIXX when the group is already facing a lot of scrutiny online.

One fan said, “Nobody thinks about ateez song when they heard the word "answer" and the fandom name is even "nswer" (North South West East Route). you all embarass ateez by pickin on these talented girls which barely debuted and by reachin so much by gatekeeping every item. just stop it.” One more fan said, “"NSWER" is a mix of "N" from "NMIXX" and "swer" from "Answer", and the meaning is "the answer that NMIXX will have when they lose their way" "ATINY" is a mix of "A" from ATEEZ, and "tiny" from "Destiny", and the meaning is "ateez's fate" I DON'T SEE ANY COPY, RIDICULOUS.”

Another fan added, “Y'all hating on NSWER are so lame it's literally a play on the word "answer"  since the group is called nmixx, so it's 'nswer' which is also short for 'north south west east route' meaning we are all around the world. THAT'S ONE OF THE BEST FANDOM NAMES I COME ACROSS BE SERIOUS.”

Ateez fans on the other hand are saying that the word ‘NSWER’, that resembles ‘Answer’, or the use of a compass is not the problem that they are trying to highlight. Atinys pointed out that the explanation used by NMIXX for the meaning of the word answer which is “North South West East Route,” is very similar to a lyric used in the song ‘Horizon’ from Ateez's 2020 album ‘Treasure Epilogue: Action to Answer.’

One fan defended Ateez saying, “Atinys are not gatekeeping the compass nor the name answer. we don't care about that. what matters is how they used it and the meaning behind NSWER that exactly proves it's literally ateez STORY LINE. we are gatekeeping the story line and we have every right to be mad of JYP.”

Another fan said, “Yes im gatekeeping the description because this is what ateez said. u can use that nswer u can use compass BUT CREATE YOUR OWN DESCRIPTION. this is for your own fandom,why are you still copying ateez for your fandom?” One more fan said, “Again, we aren't mad because of the fandom name but the meaning they're putting on it, the word Answer can be so subjective but they choose something similar to the Ateez song, so.” They also said, “No bestie, absolutely no, just a random word for y'all but they just decided to steal the storyline so we associated it to Ateez, we are not gatekeeping the word but the MEANING they're giving to it, hope you understand.”

One fan said, “they work so hard and for what?? for jyp to continue stealing from ATEEZ... it’s not just the fact that’s it’s “answer”(NSWER) … it’s the logo for the fandom too. like y’all can’t act like that’s not suspicious?? if you don’t understand, use that “compass” and find a brain.” One more fan said, “Its not about the word nswer heck they could name their fandom spaghetti and i couldnt careless. its literally about the meaning behind that fandom name ffs.” One more frustrated fan said, “again : it's not abt just the compass or just abt the ships. we wouldnt bat an eye if a fandom was called nswer.., but so many things overlap it's frustrating. we're not mad at the girls. theyre talented and hardworking. but the ppl behind the concept of nmixx are just... ugh..”
