NMIXX ‘O.O’: Ateez, aespa fans call out JYPE for plagiarizing, say 'put some respect'

NMIXX was introduced to the world in the most novel way with JYPE launching blind pre-orders without even giving us a sneak-peek of the group and it caused quite a buzz. However, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for them since then. Before their debut, their introductory teasers were slammed by Loona and Enhypen fans for being allegedly similar. It has gotten worse now as Ateez and aespa fans too are calling out JYPE for plagiarizing from their favorites.

Previously, JYPE was called out by Monsta X fans for allegedly stealing their logo for their new boy band Xdinary Heroes in November 2021. And now, months later, K-pop Twitter is seeing a similar reaction to the K-pop label’s new girl group. We first had NMIXX’s title track ‘O.O’ being leaked just days before their debut. From the snippet, many pointed out that the song was quite similar to aespa’s ‘Next Level’. JYPE then claimed that ‘O.O’ was a new genre made for the girls called ‘MIXX POP’.

Ateez and aespa fans slam JYPE

However, JYPE’s description of ‘MIXX POP’ is combining two or more genres. This had SM fans clamoring as they pointed out that groups like aespa and NCT have been experimenting with genres and noise music way before NMIXX’s debut or formation. Following that, the day of NMIXX’s debut was marred with much anger as Ateez fans claimed that a majority of NMIXX’s concept, font, titling, props and music video was plagiarized from Ateez’s ‘Illusion’, ‘Inception’, ‘Turbulence’, ‘Real’, VCRs and more.

Fans have taken to Twitter to ask JYPE for an explanation as they made side-by-side comparisons of Ateez and NMIXX with uncanny similarities. One Atiny (Ateez’s fandom) tweeted, “ATINYS MAKE SURE TO HYPE THESE # FOR THE ISSUE OUR SHIP HAD BEEN STOLEN WE SHOULD NOT STAY SILENT !!” Another fan posted, “Ateez the blueprint indeed but what the f**k.” With JYPE being part of K-pop’s Big 3 while Ateez and Loona are from small companies, one user was frustrated, “Ateez and loona literally work their asses off in SMALL companies and still manage to have the most unique concepts & carry the fourth gen music wise. put some respect on their work + can't even mention en-, their narrations concepts is also got copied by the one and only jype.” 

'No one is attacking NMIXX'

One Atiny pointed out, “Our diary film and concept?? loona & enhypen fans were effected, too jype done messed up they set those girls up :( we need an explanation !” Another posted, “3 months ago they plagiarized MONSTA X logo and now again they plagiarized ATEEZ concept... JYP I'm disappointed in you!!! You are one of big three entertainments but still plagiarized other company's work…” One Atiny explained, “Please have in mind that no one is attacking nmixx, we're only complaining to jype about this matter. Stop twisting our words into something terrible that might start a fws again.” 

Fans of K-pop groups that make noise music aka ‘MIXX POP’ shared, “Not jype pretending they made a new genre.... they are making themselves sound like idiots rn…” One MY (aespa’s fandom) tweeted, “Jype trying to make their own aespa but the artists are mis-used god.” Another fan was exasperated, “I blame nmixx and jype for copying multiple groups esp aespa. like if you want to copy something at least make it good??” 

One user pointed out, “Nobody want to Hate NMIXX. Show me any hate against girls.we are dragging company and we should. Ateez,enha,loona,aespa are not any big 6 7 yr grp,just they passed the rookie phase.thats why its easy for JYPE to use it.” Another MY said, “Not aespa fault some companies especially jype is shitty at making 'noise' and 'experimental' musics.”
