'Not fan of theme nights': Fans slam 'American Idol' 2023 format as contestants perform songs by Alanis
BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 21 judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were not present to share critical comments about the contestants' performances as they were busy performing at the King Charles' coronation concert. However, substitute judges Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette joined Luke Bryan during the latest episode.
The eight aspiring singers sang their hearts out to grab a spot in the Top 5. The contestant performed Alanis' songs and teamed up to deliver a duet on Sheeran's songs. However, the 'American Idol' Season 21 viewers felt that Alanis' theme night was not a good idea as not everyone is fit to sing her songs.

'American Idol' 2023 contestants perform Alanis' songs
The top 8 contestants performed Alanis' songs while she mentors the singers. Alanis appeared on the latest episode as a substitute on the judges' panel for Katy Perry. Alanis, who found her love of music when she was just six years old and learned to play the piano, has released multiple hit songs.
Aspiring singers Warren Peay, Zachariah Smith, Haven Madison, Colin Stough, Megan Danielle, Iam Tongi and We Ani performed Alanis' hit songs, including 'All I Really Want', 'Ironic', 'You Learn', 'Hand in My Pocket', 'Head Over Feet', 'Guardian', and 'Uninvited', respectively. However, among the Top 8 performers, 3 contestants with the least votes had to bid adieu to the singing competition.
'Alanis Morissette's theme isn't the best for me'
While 'American Idol' 2023 contestants tried hard to impress the viewers with Alanis' songs, social media users criticized the show over the latest format. A Twitter user noted, "I'm so disappointed at the lack of grit in these Alanis performances. Only #colinstough has come remotely close."
