Will Katy Perry and Lionel Richie skip 'American Idol'? Stars to perform at King Charles' coronation
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Saying no to King Charles is one thing no one can say yes to. So will 'American Idol' judges Lionel Richie and Katy Perry. The judges will skip a live coast-to-coast 'American Idol' episode in order to perform for King Charles.
The episodes of 'American Idol' Season 21 from May 7 and 14 are not yet announced, but it is assumed that one of them will be Disney Night. The season finale will air on May 21. The theme nights challenge the contestants to sing genres in which they do not specialize. Well, this time Lionel and Katy will not be on the May 7 episode.

Why will Lionel Richie and Katy Perry not attend May 7 episode?
The reason is King Charles III. On Sunday, May 7, the day after the coronation of King Charles, Lionel, and Katy will perform at the Coronation Ball. On the same day, that is May 7, the episode of 'American Idol' will be aired. Well, the judges, of course, can not be at two different events on the same day. And turning down the King does not seem to be possible either. In fact, both judges will sing for the royals. MJS Big Blog reports that the two could call in from London and say hello to the contestants of 'American Idol' Season 21.
In addition to Lionel and Katy, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, and Alexis Ffrench will sing at the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on May 7. The Coronation Concert will celebrate the new chapter in the country's history. With themes of love, respect, and optimism, it will celebrate four nations, their communities, and the Commonwealth.
Well, among the 'American Idol' judges, only Lionel and Katy were chosen because the former is the first global ambassador of the Prince's Trust and chairman of the Global Ambassador Group, and the latter is the ambassador of the British Asian Trust.
Lionel Richie and Katy Perry are 'excited' to perform at Coronation Concert
After being asked to perform at the Coronation Concert, Lionel said in a press statement, "To share the stage with the other performers at The Coronation Concert is a once-in-a-lifetime event and it will be an honor and a celebration." On the other hand, Katy said, "I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert, and helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking."
It is indeed a great task to perform the coronation concert of the King. Let us keep waiting until May 7 to see how it goes.
