'I’m watching you': Ghostface sightings increase across America in run up to 'Scream VI' release
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It’s not Halloween season yet, but it seems the ghosts have come out already! In a spooky turn of events, many Ghostface sightings have been happening across America in the past few days- possibly to promote the release of ‘Scream VI'. In the weeks leading up to the release of the movie, there have been many sightings of people dressed up as Ghostface, standing in the middle of streets while not moving a muscle, creeping out everyone in their vicinity.
The film, starring Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courtney Cox, is slated to go on screens on Friday, March 10, and this bizarre and unnerving promotional technique has seen many scared and terribly disturbed civilians call for help from 911 whenever they turned a corner and faced a ghost. So far, they have been spotted in Sonoma, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; and St. Louis, Missouri. This comes after the demonic clown era of 2016, which saw many people get arrested and schools go under lockdown. As of yet, there has been no comment from Paramount Pictures, reported Unilad.

Ghostface joins in on the fun
While many have been seriously terrified about having to unexpectedly face a ghost in the middle of the streets, it seems that Ghostface’s official Twitter account tried to churn some humor out of these sightings. Many webcam photos of the character had been posted on Twitter, and the account had responded, “I was just minding my business” and “I’m watching you” to some of the posts!
This is not the first time that Paramount Pictures has pulled off an unusual promotional tactic such as this. For their 2022 release, ‘Smile’, the distributors had created an immersive marketing campaign to promote the psycho thriller. Paramount Pictures had hired actors to sit behind home plate while flashing unsettling grins at televised MLB games. 'Smile' became a huge commercial success, earning more than $200 million across the globe.
Scream VI releases on March 10
With the marketing for the movie in full swing, anticipation for the release of ‘Scream VI’ is at an all time high. The film is all set to release on March 10, 2023. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have opened up about the film, saying, “It’s relentless and really visceral. There’s a lot more of Matt and I in this movie. I think that we had to make Scream 5 in order to feel like we had permission to do this one." According to NME, they went on to add, "It has all of the ingredients, all of the things that we love about the franchise but it has an attitude that’s a little bit different. We think people are going to be really excited about it.”
