LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The sixth movie in the 'Scream' franchise is taking some unexpected twists, at least for Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox. The actress spoke candidly about the plot and being the final original cast member to appear in the series.

Cox admitted that she had a scene with Ghostface, the violent antagonist from the franchise, although she had no idea who was hidden behind the mask. "I have a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing. I’ve obviously been stabbed many times and all that, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who’s under the mask, it was a really fun," she said, per Variety, adding, "Usually by the time I’m getting stabbed, I know who it is."

The three original cast members to feature in all five 'Scream' films were Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette. Arquette’s Dewey was killed in the fifth movie in 2022 and Campbell, who was the franchise's original face, declared she would not be appearing in the sixth film due to a pay dispute. "I missed working with her," said Cox of Campbell’s decision, adding, "But I’m going to support whatever she feels is right."

'I really can be an absolute b***h'

According to Cox, her 'Scream' character has given her the freedom to express herself in ways that were not possible in her previous roles. "That’s a really fun character, especially at the very beginning when she was so ruthless," Cox said of Gale. "I was known from ‘Friends’ and ‘Family Ties’, known as the girl next door and sweet. I had to talk to ['Scream' director] Wes Craven and write him a letter and say, 'I know that you don’t think of me as this person, but trust me, I really can be an absolute b***h,'" she added.

"It was over the top in the perfect way. You really care about the characters because they were unique, and you don’t laugh at them, you laugh with them because they’re smart. If they were dumb, they were supposed to be and they’re endearing," she reportedly said.

'It’s so realistic'

Cox said that she recently saw the finished movie for the first time and had just one word to describe the experience: "Wow." "I was excited, I was scared. Even if I know every single person and what’s gonna happen and why and when, I won’t look. It’s so realistic. And I laughed! I cared," she said.

'Scream 6' hits theaters on March 10.
